R.A. was one of the founders of hip hop as we know it today. He came up in the 80s in NYC and ran with big names like B.I.G.
In the song "A Star Is Born" he talks about his mostly negative experiences in the music industry. He mentions being signed to Jive Records and how he felt the label only really took interest in him because they were trying to "turn the label caucasian" (aka sign "white" rap artists as a fluke or a trend without any real respect for them as artists). He mentions two other artists signed at this time: "Whitey Don and the Insane Clown Posse," but he never disses or outwardly hates on the Clowns. I think it's implied that Jive's arbitrary signing of "white" artists and the fact that they grouped a hip hop legend and originator like R.A. in with a bunch of...well...clowns...was sort of a smack in the face to him, who didn't want to be seen as a "white" artist and a fluke. R.A. had lived in the community for years and helped create a style of rap that many draw from today. The song itself is REALLY a diss on record labels, especially when he talks about some of his experiences: "He's a beast, he's a creature. Keep him the other room; don't let him see Aaliyah."
I'd LOVE to see R.A. at the gathering. The juggalos would absolutely love him. But at the end of the day, he doesn't want the lime light or to be associated with any "gimmicks" and is content with booking small shows in local spots in Philly and NYC. His reasoning? His idea of success is his wife and family--that's where he finds happiness now. The rap game will always be his mistress, but at the end of the day, sometimes, you just gotta resign yourself to the fact that a bitch is ran through. Best to keep ya distance.

Warlock--Where'd you see that interview? Because if R.A. is open to working with Psy, I'd love to see him at least play the gathering. He is sort of friends of friends of friends in the Philly hip hop scene, and I could possibly link him up with the right people at Psy if he's interested. Seriously, I think he would KILL the main stage. He is the original Scrub, and I'm sure juggalos would LOVE him. Do you agree?

Holy fuck dude!!! How did I not know that Ian interviewed R.A.?! That's awesome.
God I'm so not up on these things. Well…that settles it. If R.A. wants to play GOTJ, Ian will direct him to the right channels. I have my fingers crossed on that one.
Last time I saw him was in a tiny pool hall up the street from me. He ended his performance in nothing but a tie and some ripped up pants, throwing his fat ass everywhere and giving sweaty hugs. It was entertaining as fuck.
^^^R.A., not Big Ian.........
