album was alright, would have been better if it was darker. favorites are “no sleep, keep it 100, mad real, ain’t like us, and shut em down”

this isn’t the best debut album, not even close. most of the cd sounds the same it’s just him trying to do chopper style throughout the whole cd, which is what ruined it for me. No diversity on the cd really. His next cd needs to be much more darker. Slightly impressed tho.

I’ve only gotten to listen through once, but, I liked what I heard. As others have mentioned, there was a little more variety than I would have expected, did not expect him to sing at times but the shit sounded good. Was I hearing Sugar Slam in a track or 2 with female vocals or is that someone else? Anyway, Keep It 100 was my favorite and least favorite was that ICP collab. I think Lyte will do just fine. They just need to keep letting him be him, which they’ve done so far, and not force a character or anything like that.

Suga Slam sings on Keep it 100 and Blahzay Rose is singing on 1 in a Million

similar to Shaggy’s FTFOMF where Suga was on Celebrate and Blahzay was on Seven Deadliest

Well that’s cool Sugar Slam is still working with them and wasn’t just totally kicked to the curb.

J said in the ICP seminar they’re still on good terms for the most part and I’m sure by this point she’s almost like family to guys like Joey and Rob so it makes sense she’d still work with them to an extent

I don’t think darker is really lytes style. Personally, I don’t think it’d be nearly as good if it were darker.

I for one, like the icp collab. It’s a change of pace from the rest of the album. Plus, it’s fun and catchy. Why does everyone have such a problem with fun and catchy songs these days? Wasn’t a problem when milenko came out. Madchild abandoned the humor and fun on his new album and I think it’s terrible.

I’ll have to youtube it and give lyte a chance, but I highly doubt it compares to Mostasteless which falls into your debut album category.

Trust me I thought about it cuz all that really holds up debut wise is Mostasteless, unless someone can dig real fuckin deep and give a good reason why blaze abk or whoever else had a better debut. I get what your saying though man it is 2 completely different eras and styles of music damn near 20 year difference.

The problem is that he does a chopper style on every track and it isn’t anything interesting ..he just rhymes syllables together fast

I admit there could be a wider range of subject matter…and I agree while he’s obviously established the chopper abilities it’d be nice to hear a couple slower joints from him on his debut album…as far as an EP debut though I fuck with it…stronger than Young Wicked’s latest and that was a full length lol (to be fair that YW album did have a few bangers but all in all suffered from the same issue as Lyte’s EP where there just isn’t that much subject matter outside of how he’s gonna rise above all his haters (and that random pill popping song with Mac Lethal…I don’t like the song but it’s probably the strongest case of him actually going outside the box a little bit)…I fucked with Lyte’s flows on this though…the little changes to his voice at times were dope too and kept things interesting plus he’s got a way of rapping fast (like Tech) where you can still make out pretty much everything he’s saying…I’m not out here ready to say it’s the best Psychopathic debut ever or anything because that’s probably not the case but certainly the strongest debut they’ve had in a while (didn’t like Blahzay’s joint and Hoodoo’s debut wasn’t my favorite either though he made up for it with Asylum which was fire!)

a couple of darker tracks would be nice…I don’t think the whole thing needs to be dark though lol (like Boondox’s The Murder or Twiztid’s W.I.C.K.E.D.)…like others have said I don’t think the darker approach would work for this dude he seems happy just flexing his skills and ripping through beats

I thought Lyte’s hooks were better than what Young Wicked does on his solo stuff.  His hooks that he did for ICP were good because he wasn’t the only voice.  Hell, even the AMB hooks are alright because Bonez (love him or hate him) is there to break up the autotune singing a little bit, but his hooks on Slaughter and Prodigal Son are mostly just him repeating a few words in heavily autotuned singing.  Take “Burning Smoke” for example.  It’s just sound.

Lyte showed a good variety in that field in my opinion.

the hooks definitely but even Lyte’s verses were better IMO…YW came across as kind of whiny on that Prodigal Son album…I’m not gonna say dude doesn’t have talent because he does he just doesn’t utilize it correctly which results in bland music when he’s capable of more…say what you will about J and his influence over his artists sound but I do think he knows how to shape a good record from start to finish…the quality can sometimes be hit or miss but the structuring is usually always on point

all in all I just enjoyed Lyte’s project more…wasn’t a big fan of Slaughter either really though it had a few keepers…I do like that for the most part it sounds like they just let Lyte do his thing (think the singing Lyte does at the end of FTTBBR is definitely some shit J wrote but otherwise it felt like Lyte handled everything else on his own)

Oh, for sure.  J’s influence is all over this even though it’s not the style of music that J does.  I know a lot of people on here love to bash J for whatever, but I can’t help but respect the guy.  He knows how to bring a particular sound out of a particular person and help put together a cohesive project.

Fuck. That’s what I was worried about. Why the fuck do people think that chopping is all that’s required? I have to give it a listen yet but now I have an expectation going in.

I have been bumpin it for a few days now, and I dig it. Doesn’t seem like lyte is going to be a story teller much. This album just felt like random tracks being thrown on the cd but it’s whatever. I liked it. Probably best debut album from psy in a long time. At the seminar he mentioned how some songs were stuff he wrote previously before psy, so i’m interested in hearing a completely new cd.

I wouldnt have wanted his whole cd to be dark, but he does need to stop with the chopper style on every song. Some slow stuff would have been nice as well.

it’s a solid EP lol people reaching with these criticisms tbh (he does the chopper flow too much!) lol some people dig it…I’d like him to switch it up a bit more on the full length album for sure but I can’t knock him for flexing his skills and tryna make a statement…aside from the Big Poppa Pump punchline which just reminded me of 2 Dope’s latest album I have very little to complain about on here

Okay, so I had to be one of Lyte’s harshest critics until Monday when we got back from OK and gave this a listen (having listened to it once or twice daily since then). He was much better onstage at GOTJ than he was on the second leg of the Riddlebox tour and JDAY. He’s growing on me, and as far as chopper shit goes, at least he is clear and you can easily understand what he is saying, unlike Tech who just spits gibberish a third of of the time.. not to mention he doesn’t chop the entire time, verses in each song, yeah, but I feel like there is less of that than what everybody is making it out to be. Also, I’m stoked that he isn’t a character- who would he be? I can’t say that I would take any character he played seriously.

“Ain’t Like Us” is a solid track, not chopping the entire time, like it was mentioned before it’s a good repping PSY song.

“Keep it 100” is just a bumping party song, so yeah, worth a listen, especially when on drugs (at least I would imagine)… ALSO NOT A CHOPPER SONG!!!!

“Mad Real” is darker, are you guys not listening to the lyrics? Also, song is FAR from a chopper song- one of the better songs on the album.

“FTTBBR”  IMO is the best song on the album, it’s just so fucking funny and catchy and I love grimy strip clubs, reminds me of my old days hanging out at The Glass Slipper in Boston with my homegirl Sin. Don’t listen to Chris Rock, there is always sex in the Champagne Room.

@noah-fence doesn’t like Lyte because it rhymes with white and he hates Whyte people.

agreed for the most part (I think people assume chopper style is anything faster than how Hoodoo raps lmao)

you’re allowed to have your opinion but I disagree about FTTBBR…it’s a fun song and not nearly as terrible as some people have been making it out to be (for example…I don’t think it’s bad enough to be included in the list of worst ICP features/collabs ever lol) but compared to the other tracks on the album it felt like the weakest cut…also the song wasn’t that funny to me lol…the simple ass chorus was the funniest part for me…like I said you’re welcome to your opinion though we agree on pretty much everything else…solid EP
