If I wasn’t in the process of fixing up my car, I’d be there. Enjoy everybody!

I’ll be there! I will miss the first 45 minutes or so due to work, but, otherwise I’ll be doing it up.

So, I never thought I’d say this, but, Big Ballas was kind of wack for my tastes.

Due to my work schedule yesterday, I got there about an hour after the show started. I missed Project Born, Ouija, and I only caught the very tail end of Hoodoo. Which was fine with me. The setup was pretty cool in the venue, they had a wrestling ring in front of the regular stage where they had JCW matches and the artists performed in the ring. I liked that. I’ve been to this venue many times, it’s a cool place.

After Hoodoo was a JCW match, Lyte, ABK, another JCW match, and DJ Clay played music in between everything. The JCW matches were fun. Lyte and ABK did fine. I enjoy a little bit of music from both of them but overall don’t really get into them. On top of that, I never really care for rap performances where all you do is just rap over top of the studio versions of your songs. Not even instrumentals, just the actual song. To me there’s really no point in going to see that live. I make exception for ICP because it’s really a show with the Faygo throwing, people in costumes on stage, all that good shit. That very last sentence is why I will explain why the event was wack.

ICP came out after quite a while from the last JCW match and at that point I’m definitely ready for them, Faygo showers, all that good shit. But guess what? They didn’t throw out a drop of fuckin Faygo! Like, what? When is the last time that happened aside from maybe the March? After the first couple of songs I was just kind of like well ok I guess they’re just going to pick a good moment to start it off and it’s going to be nuts. Nope.

Aside from the baffling lack of Faygo, ICP only really had their own set for about 20 minutes. J clearly didn’t know about 30-50% of the lyrics he was “performing”. Even that can be forgivable when the show is going off. But what got really weird to me is after they did their shit, the other Psychopathic artists started coming out and it got messy. I’ll explain -I think Shaggy just got done doing “Tell Them Bitches” (which was cool) and then ABK came out. He did “Sticky Icky Situation” with ICP and left the stage. That was cool too. Then that’s where it went wrong.

Lyte came out next and just performed one of his songs, not a collab song. It may have even been 2 songs, while ICP just acted as hype people. I’m like ok, nothing against Lyte, but he already had his set, what’s up with this? He leaves, and the Oujia came out. Same thing, he performed some song, which actually he entirely lip synced for some strange reason. He leaves and Hoodoo came out, performed “Hexed”, bounced. DJ Clay was next, performed some song I don’t know and left. This again is all while ICP is on stage with them just kind of being hype men. Still no Faygo. These dudes all had their own sets, I didn’t get it.

Then fuckin’ everyone came out on stage. It was a clusterfuck of all of everyone on stage (Ouija, ABK, Hoodoo, Clay, Carlito, ICP, PJB) and I recall them doing like an ABK song and maybe a couple others. It ended with “If I Was A Serial Killer”. I dig that song but it was just everyone on stage, most with microphones, all screaming shit and just being drunk friends on stage we’re all forced to look at. All that’s fine if that’s how you do the very end of the show, but, this went on for several songs. One thing that was pretty funny was J literally grabbed Oujia and threw him into the crowd and they caught him. Ouija then started just basically doing flips into the crowd. He seems like he’s pretty crazy. Earlier in the night, he came out from the back and went through the crowd maybe to go outside or something, and he walked right past me. Dude is seriously tiny, he must be no more than 100 lbs.

Overall, maybe some other people there enjoyed seeing all that, but I was just disappointed that ICP barely had a set, didn’t do the Faygo, didn’t have costumed monsters and that sort of thing on stage with them, and it was just kind of a sloppy and weird mess of a show. They played this exact same venue last year on the Riddlebox Tour, so I can’t imagine the venue would have allowed them to play again if they had an issue with the Faygo throwing, nor do I think ICP would take the show outside of Detroit to a place that wasn’t cool with it.

I know people are often interested in what was at the merch table, but, I didn’t pay much attention. I went at the very end after ICP’s set because when we walked in, a member of the crew handed us tickets for a free gift at the merch table. They had me roll some fuzzy Psychopathic dice which determined what type of shit you can pick from. It was some lady that mostly helped out with that and she’s showing me what’s available. My dumbass wasn’t wearing glasses and didn’t fuck with putting in contacts so I had a hard time seeing the shit. Then Jumpsteady walks over and goes “Hey here’s a Hatchetman charm you can have that seems to have gone overlooked, it’s from the Gathering”. And I was like fuck yeah I’ll take it. I didn’t even realize that was him sitting there. In that brief interaction, he was super cool and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there hooking people up. Otherwise, looking around real quick they did have some Christmas themed Big Ballaz shirts that looked pretty cool, I didn’t take pictures though.

I’m bummed the show was a disappointment to me, that’s for sure. Hopefully they come back around on the Milenko tour next year and I can see them again in true form.

Yeah I know the Milenko tour ends pretty much today I think. But, they may go on another leg of it. That’s what happened on the Riddlebox tour. There was no Nashville tour date on the first run, but they went out again and Nashville was added, hoping for the same again.

Thanks for posting a review. Sounds similar to the New Years Ninja party in Worcester back in 2012 … short sets sandwiched by JCW matches. Was weird seeing ICP perform without the Faygo but I had a drunkenly wondrous time.

Hopefully they’ll keep changing the location for Ballas like they do with Juggalo Day.

when?  well, last ballas.  for starters.

i can see the basic problem here, so…  write this down, chevy:

ballas is not a show.  not really.  and definitely aint an ‘icp show’, as such.  it is a juggalo xmas party.  the shows are incidental.

walk into it thinkin like that, you wont be disappointing yourself ahead of time.

Violent J solo show with Lil Eazy, no Faygo. Didn’t expect it, didn’t miss it. I love it during ICP shows. But this was a song-based show, where the Juggalos and non-Juggalos alike come to just appreciate the music. Unfortunately Young Wicked was doing Shaggy’s parts and yakking about how special he was due to his sobriety, but we had a blast nonetheless.

@chevy2dope , like @scruffy said, they don’t do Faygo at Ballas. I don’t know for sure, but I am pretty certain that they never have.  Either way, I enjoyed it last year and would have been there this year had it not been on a Friday.  I would have been driving right this second had it been tonight.  Not sure why they decided on a Friday night, but it sold out, so I would say it was a success.

On another random note, There were like 6 people I personally knew from Texas who drove up there with NO TICKET.  Several Juggalos showed up to the door and were assed out due to it being sold out. Why are you going to drive for half a day and NOT HAVE A TICKET??  Seems like everyone made the best of it, but damn…

You make a good point, I did not think of it that way. I just looked at it as a “Christmas special” and made the assumption ICP’s set would still be like an ICP show they are known for. So, you’re right, I had something else in mind that wasn’t going to happen and it ended up not being what I was hoping for.

@scottied That’s funny about the TX people showing up with no ticket. That’s stupid as fuck. I wonder if the 2 dudes I talked to outside the venue were part of that group? They were trying to get in without a ticket, which of course the security guys were not having. I tried to be nice and make small talk to them, they then asked if they could buy my tickets and would pay “top dollar” even though they promptly asked for $50 right after that. I felt bad but was like no sorry, I can’t give up my tickets. These dudes were looking ROUGH. Right as I was walking in I heard one of them go “That sounds like J right there!” like he was all geeked. It wasn’t. It was Hoodoo.

Probably thought they’d still be selling tickets at the door anyone who thinks about going to a show should always buy tickets before hand unless they certain it won’t sell out

Yeah always buy tickets beforehand even if you’re local, let alone driving all the way from goddamn TX. I struggle to understand the stupidity but hopefully they still had a good time.

lol, pretty sure my homies wouldn’t have mistaken Hoodoo for J.  But I also know that it wasn’t just my group that traveled there without tickets. Hell, I would have assumed tickets would have been available at the door after last year’s Ballas in st. Louis. I also wouldn’t have taken the chance of driving there without one though.  Oh well…live and learn!

Some people think they can get tickets from scalpers like it’s a football game or something.  I saw someone try to pull it off at a Tech N9ne show.  Independent Powerhouse Tour in 2016 in Cleveland.  Some idiot drove up from KCMO and was going person to person that are in the line and begging for tickets.  Pro tip: Hang around the parking lots. Don’t ask the people in line.  They probably intend to use their tickets to get out of that line.
