Is Insane Clown Posse The Most Successful Band In History?

I often hear people talk down or diss the Insane Clown Posse, and those people are entitled to their opinions, even if they don’t know the facts. ICP is in fact of of the most successful artists in history. How many band have their own record label? Probably a good few, right? How many have been around over 2 decades? A few less I’m sure. How many have their own festival? Now we’re really narrowing it down, aren’t we? How many bands have a fan base as dedicated and diverse as the much hated Juggalos? ICP’s career is unlike any other in music history. From the slums of Detroit to being ingrained in pop culture history. Not many people came up like they did. In terms of mainstream popularity they aren’t exactly well liked, but they were never meant to be. They were the bottom of the food chain all of their life so why would they cater to the people they hate? They have a very loyal fan base unlike any other. The only ones who can rival juggalos are the Deadheads. Try to find a band that has made music with legends, wrestled in the WWE, have their own wrestling company, have their own label and artist signed on it, their own festival, documentaries clothing brand, drinks, movies, etc. All in all ICP is nearly unrivaled only a few can come close to their success.

Been saying stuff like this for years. I proudly proclaim that ICP are “the realest motherfuckers in hip-hop” and people have tried to laugh me out of the room. I stand by that statement.

Depends on how you measure success, ya know?

Well…the normal way lol. Financial success, popularity, longevity,  the whole nine.

there are other ways to measure it. infinite ways, maybe.

i remember once Scottie had us ask questions for those clowns, for an interview. Mine was “what do you want to be remembered for?”

they got quiet as fuck. Scottie asked the question again.

Shaggs said “it takes time to answer the deepest question of all time”. (not verbatim, but the wording was quite similar)

That shit was awesome.

Financially, not even close. Popularity, still not by a long shot. Longevity, more then most but still no.

They succeed where many fail, and have achieved things plenty of people could not, but I do not think they are the most successful band at all. Not financially, not popularity, not longevity, not legacy, not influence, not innovation, NOTA. But they deserve an honorable mention in music history along with NWA, Micheal Jackson, Black Sabbath, Elvis, The Beatles, etc. They are more successful in most categories than most artists though.

For showing the world that some scrubs can rise up, in a sense, they are priceless.

Like punk rock in the 80s, OMD, ICP was like punk rock in the 80s.

Q: Is Insane Clown Posse The Most Successful Band In History?

A: No.

To be pedantic, they arn’t even a band. “Group” would have worked better. Answer still a hard no.

I was just thinking about this earlier when I heard they were gonna be part of Rockfest. I went to Avenged Sevenfold Facebook page to watch people react to ICP being part of Rockfest and get pissed. ICP doesn’t get the credit they deserve. Two highschool dropouts that built an empire from nothing. They did this themselves. Most band require a big time record label to call the shots and steer them towards success. ICP is controlling their own ship. While Esham and Geto Boys were doing their style of rap before them they never achieved the success or long term success ICP sees. ICP and Psychopathic has a legacy to their own. Even while I enjoy Twiztid and MNE, Majik Ninja just feels like a synthetic version of the empire ICP built. Even if Psychopathic isn’t what it used to be.

Yeah there are many ways to measure success but I’m thinking more on the lines of “tradional” success

They are def not “the most successful” but that hardly matters because they are relatively unique in their success. Hardly anybody else in horrorcore is even on the map.

If you really believed that all lives matter we wouldn't need to say black lives matter

it’s surprising to me how many people never even heard of Gravediggaz and such. I played them for this girl who claimed to be well versed in Wu, and she was stunned. She fell in love with it, tho.

Horrorcore… other than Gravediggaz, Flatliners, Esham, ICP, Eminem and Gangsta Nip, maybe Brotha Lynch Hung, Necro…. there aren’t many that have seemed to do super well. HERE COME THE THOUSANDS OF “YOU KNOW NOTHING! WHAT ABOUT -insert horrorcore artist that did well at some point-“

And a lot of these people claim that they aren’t horrorcore nor do they want to be associated with. Kool Keith, D-12, I dunno… who cares,,,, let’s smoke some wet, who’s in?
