Since J&J are getting up their in age and Ninjas on here have done the math
and concluded that they will be in the mid 50’s and early 60’s to finish out this
deck, Would people be opposed for two people that they hand pick and mentored
to don the Paint?
This is a trick question because how much do you think Violent J the character or
Shaggy the character encompass the actual Joe or Joey?
Remember back in the day they would always stay in character for interviews
or any other media exposure.
This would have to be the ultimate end game in order for the label to move forth
beyond an unexpected death or accident.
This would ensure the Characters of ICP would live on.
Crazy to think about, Any thoughts?

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has had these thoughts.
ICP themselves have said they intend to keep going Rolling Stones style, as long as they can, so barring some monumental tragedy we still have another 30 to 40 years of Joe and Joey to look forward to.
I personally like the idea of new characters taking up the mantel of The Dark Carnival Prophets, and continue it for the next generation. I don’t know if the powers that be would allow that for the sake of their legacy and the interest of their family, but who am I to say?

It’s an interesting concept. Dave Brockie floated the same idea once. He wanted to find and mentor an new “Oderus” to take up the mantle when he passed. I kind of wish he did. He procrastinated, died early; GWAR is shit now. ICP might be one of the few bands that could franchise successfully.

People have really heavily invested in this Juggalo shit in case you

It would be easier for an act like ICP to pull this off since they are
characters and usher in an entire NEW generation of Juggalos with

We already know if this were to happen J would pick his kid, no doubt. Violent J Jr? Come on! If any of the talent DID get passed down I think he could pull it off if it was a different character with slightly altered paint or something like that. Different style. I’m just saying, when you make something around the idea of characters, wouldn’t you want the characters or the world they inhabit to endure? Maybe not even a direct continuation of the ICP, but something to carry the legacy of The Dark Carnival forward.
The Looney Tunes didn’t die with Mel Blanc. They didn’t bury Mickey with Walt Disney. When ideas outgrow their creators in terms of cultural impact they can have scary staying power.

@scruffy Good points, all, but those dangers remain when the intellectual property rights fall into the hands of people who would only exploit them for profit. This may very well be an inevitable outcome one way or another, since no matter what happens I promise the merchandise train will far outlast the production of the music.

I think there’s very little chance for the culture and mythos to die off with either J or Shaggs at this point. Their catalog is huge and varied, and there are plenty of related artists.

ICP will ALWAYS be Joe and Joey. No reason for a 2.0. Even if they mentored 2 other people it wouldn’t be the same in anyway and not many Juggalos would fuck with a rebooted version. The music will live on. As Scruffy said…Juggalos are the ones who have too keep the world & sub culture they built alive.
