So I'm sitting here watching Ill Mind of Hopsin, he's been talking about releasing it on his bday all week on facebook. So i guess he uploaded it last night .. its some real ass shit. If you haven't seen it .. you should watch it.

feature=player_embedded#!

Now heres the thing ... he just uploaded that video at like 3 am last night .. and its now 5 pm the next day. Thats 14 hours and his video has 333,000 views on youtube and counting. I don't think anyone on this board would say that Hopsin is bigger than ICP ....  yet. Most people consider Hopsin as Underground as it gets along with Funk Volume.

Now .. the Gathering Infomercial has been out over a week now ... and is currently sitting at a little over 150,000 views. Its been out for about a week and it has half the views Hopsins new video has in half a day.

So .. Insane Clown Posse is not mainstream, at least not the way some of these folks make it sound. I rarely ever have conversations about ICP, Psy, or anything related ... unless I'm the one bringing it up. Just sayin.

yeah neither are mainstream cuz i feel youre only mainstream if you get regular radio & video rotation it really goes without saying who's mainstream & who isnt

however i also feel like theres a mainstream of the underground meaning theres names like icp, tech 9, technique, hopsin, jedi mind tricks etc who everyone hip to the underground is well aware of hell even people who arent very hip to it know most of these names

if you go to the gotj commercial 99 percent of the views are hate shit and the other 1 is a juggalo asking why they went to the video but thats the one flagged as spam. definitley not mainstream

i forgot who said it but someone hit the nail on the head when they said "if icp were mainstream it wouldnt have to be said" which is true cuz itd go without saying like when they were with island

& also when your music's getting MILLIONS of views you arent "as Underground as it gets" hell once your music is getting a hundred thousands of views youve reached "mainstream of the underground" status as Underground as it gets is when an artist is relatively unknown outside of their state but known inside of it

i gotta love how, in this brave world of nearly instant information exchange, where somehow music is judged by viewing it, we still use one-dimensional terms like 'mainstream or underground' to label everything.  those ideas will be obsolete soon.  probably obsolete now.

as an aside, i would say 'underground as it gets' means an audience of zero.

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

i dont get whats wrong with them labels, its just something up to personal interpretation. its harder to define independent in music because no one who has any fans is comepleteley independent, with "independent labels" like psy strange subnoize etc. but they still on indie charts and shit

KMK never had certifications and are pigeon holed as a "juggalo act" and Canibus was a shot in the pan ONE gold album off of a diss song. ICP have maintained there visibility for over a decade now, and in time other past releases will be certified(COC, B/B, Wraith, etc.)

It's stupid to argue about it if there underground to you folks fine....my perspective is different, if you're on tv multiple times a year over a decade and have multiple gold and platinum albums you're not underground anymore.

okay pretty much the reason hopsin is getting more views than the gathering video is simply he is more promoted. he was on the cover of XXL as of this years freshmen class. which leads to promotion from every hip hop website...he drops a video they report it. now when icp drops a video or new album XXL wont interview them and 95% of hip hop/rap website wont say shit. but now i still agree if you go around and ask 100 people who hopsin is maybe you'll get a few if you say who are the insane clown posse i guarantee you more people know who they are....i also have a feeling more people than you might think will know of them tho.
