17 = 8

Classical numerology here. You add the digits in a number to get a new number then read the new number for meaning. 1+7=8 so numerologically 17 = 8.

8 means prosperity, so it’s a great number to put on everything you’d like to sell. 

1 means the individual and 7 means death, so you could also see it as a summation of the basic message of the band, the individual facing Death.

Again, I don’t believe this was intentional, but I do believe they were guided in a lot of their decisions by the Dark Carnival spirits and these kind of connections are fascinating to me.
