He said in an interview something along the lines of juggalos didn’t respect him on the label because he wasn’t a juggalo artist and hip hop heads didn’t respect it because they don’t respect ICP, so they didn’t like that he was teaming up with them. And he said he thought it was quite a shame because he and ICP/juggalos are against mainstream rap so they are supposed to be on the same team.

He’d rather cosplay as Marvel’s Kingpin.

I also had the impression that juggalos in general didn’t really dig him. Quite sad, because I thought The Only Solution was an amazing album. At first I thought I was gonna be disappointed because they were all recycled beats. But I was really impressed. He managed to reinterpret each song in a fresh way. He had some iconic beats on there. Like, I thought there was gonna be no way that I can hear his song on the Chicken Huntin beat or the So High beat and NOT just think of the original song and have the urge to listen to that instead. But somehow he managed. Somehow he managed to come up with a new hook to the Chicken Huntin beat which was perfect for it. But I was most impressed with the song Swan Sighting. It used the beat from Blaze’s Damn Bitch and I HATE that song. I hate the concept, I hate the stupid hook, I hate that it’s a Dayton Family / Blaze collaboration which should have been great but was wasted on such a dumb song. And I hate the beat. Or so I thought, because I really like Swan Sighting. He managed to make a dope song out of a beat that I previously hated. That’s impressive.

Anyways, I would have liked to have seen at least one more album on Psy with original beats. But a sequel to The Only Solution would have been cool as well, because it was a great concept album but had an open ending. I think a supergroup with him and some Psy guys would have been dope as well. Plus he could have provided some cool hooks for other project. Doesn’t always have to be Legz or Otis. Bottom line, Psy really lost a great talent there.

I actually really liked “the only solution” & was looking forward 2 the follow up, I think since his style of classic west coast rap didn’t clash well with the horrorcore underground

I love him as a rapper. He’s from my home town so above the law is the shit.

But the only solution fucked him over. He shoulda come out the gate doing his own shit over hard ass beats. Doing beats we have heard for 20 years with new lyrics was whack. Made it hard to get into the songs. I’m never gonna not here the original.

If you really believed that all lives matter we wouldn't need to say black lives matter

He was another Violent J flavor of the month….

J has been saying for years that they realized juggalos don’t just go for any old artist they decide to slap a hatchetman on to. And yet… PSY continues to do so once every few years…

All fantastic points. I loved the gimmick they built around The Only Solution (and I respect Hutch for going with it. Established as he is and running with that is straight Juggalo shit, idk who says what) and packaging it with a comic booklet made for a neat little bonus. But I’m a sucker for concept albums.

I get that having him rap over Juggalo standards was Psy’s way of softballing him for a new audience, but this is what I think ultimately doomed the project. Repurposing classic beats is a surefire way to negate the opportunity for those songs to become classics in their own right- not to mention how big Juggalos at large are on artists proving themselves by merit, and how much they covet their sacred cows. An album that held on to the concept but was built from the ground up stood to be a stronger debut and less likely to be written off as “Crazy Uncle J fanboyed out and slapped his bars over a bunch of shit you know and like. Don’t bother.” Imagine if he had broke Esham that way. But we all know homey don’t play that anyhow.

I agree with the sentiment that Hutch is talented, but not everything can be Juggafied. I also wish we could have seen The Psychopathic Assassin’s journey reach a satisfactory conclusion, though. As it stands it’s another Dark Carnival curiousity, a neat little lame duck I bust out when I wanna hear something odd even by Juggalo standards.
