OK I had to say something here. Since I actually know a little about Natives. I will say you are only 50% correct.
Although “Alaskan” is not the official tribal name the Inupiat, Yupik, Aleut, Eyak, Tlingit, Tsimshian, Haida and other Inuit cultures often call themselves Alaskan or “True Alaskan ” when referring to themselves. It is a sense of pride. Often times a way of showing that they are more legit to the land then others.
No different then when a Mexican persons lineage goes pretty deep into Texas history they might prefer to be called Texan. Or when a Native Hawaiian might refer to themselves as Hawaiian when their ancestry is technically Polynesian.
It is a sense of pride and honestly not an argument I would like to have with any Native that feels deeply one way or the other about it. But you are right in a way, just wouldn’t tell the wrong native such things unless you want to join whales in becoming lamp oil.

perhaps he meant it in the back, back, back in the day sense. when ‘cloth’ was used synonymously with ‘garb’.
i wouldnt deduct too many points from rappers, especially the wickedy ones, for having technical inaccuracies. they are kinda commonplace.
even when the rapper knows better, they still might choose to go with it just to make a better rhyme or flow.
