So I've been a fan of Primus for a few years now but I never got heavy into them until I heard Les' solo and side projects. Now I can't get enough of this man and the way he plays bass. His shit is just so different that it's got me digging all these violin/saxophone/xylophone sounds which I never used to bump at all. Not to mention the fact that Les is pretty unknown as far as the public eye is concerned so there is some similarity between him and ICP in terms of being hidden gems in the music industry doing their own thing. I had heard about him from doing the South Park theme song but you have to really look to find his music outside of Primus.

I'd love to see Claypool play at the Gathering, it'd be along the same lines as George Clinton and the P Funk playing there in my eyes.

That's how I pretty much felt about him before I got into his work outside of Primus. It really wasn't until I saw a live DVD of one of his concerts that I was sold like a motherucker. Sometimes I gotta see an artist live to really get down with em.

I do.

Had a drummer friend in college who got me into them.

I have both flying frog brigade albums 1 and 2. They are awesome.

Tales from the Punchbowl is one of my favorite Primus records.

Tales from the Punch Bowl is my least favorite Primus disc. I think Sea of Cheese is my favorite, but generally their first three are pretty fucking solid.

I haven't really heard much from his solo shit.

Tales From the Punchbowl got some pretty good grooves on it, Southbound Pachyderm is one of my favorite Primus songs. But my favorite Primus CD is definitely their newest, Green Naugahyde, it's way different than their previous albums(I think in part due to Les' experimentation over the past 10 years or so with other artists). After that it's definitely Seas of Cheese it's a classic.

Yeah Live Frogs set 1 is fucking incredible. I think Purple Onion is without a doubt the best thing Les has ever done, at least in my eyes. I've been rocking that CD just as hard as I rock anything Psy puts out.

I think its a shame his solo work is so hidden cuz it really is leagues beyond Primus. I'm a little upset that I just discovered it myself seeing as it's been around for as long as I could truly appreciate music. That's why I'm wondering how many Juggalos are into this shit cuz I think alot of 'los in the dark would really dig his solo work. It's goofy and has an odd appearance to it, but there is some serious talent going on not only with Les but with who he works with too.

I think this shit is just so different than what anybody else is doing

I'm not even 100% on wtf Trey Anastasio is doing with the deer antlers on his guitar(I assume some variation of a theremin) but it hypnotizes me. Then ya got Les doing all types of weirdness on his solo Of Fungi and Foe like this song

First time i ever saw Primus was on that tour. October 31st 1997, Primus with openers POWERMAN 5000 and LIMP BIZKIT. LIMP BIZKIT was the opener for THEM, so that was a long time ago. it was at the state theatre(now the fillmore). one of the most historic concerts ive been to to date! cool

Damn that does sound like a great fuckin show. Their latest tour with the 3D effects was pretty sweet, even if it was at a venue with no pit area.

Les Claypool always tries to tell me what to do, but I don't listen to him. I act like I'm going to, but when he leaves I just do my own thing. Sometimes he comes around all like "shut the fuck up". I'll be quiet......but when he leave......I be talkin again

Les Claypool, the primus dude. I thought dude was going through a similar situation, like does anyone listen to this guy? I mean, I hear what he's saying when he tells me what to do but I don't "listen" listen to him. I just blow him off. Who is he to tell me what to do anyway?

so...

even though it aint my shit, i dled a bunch of stuff to check it out, based on yalls opinions.  reading this, i realized that i really hadnt heard anything since around the time of my name is mud.

its weird.  not bad, just weird.  like i say, not my cup of tea, but not somethin id hate on, just kinda wonky.

ya know, while is was listening to it, i thought, 'theres something kinda pink floyd about all this'.  interestingly, the next track that comes on is a cover of shine on you crazy diamond.  which also was not bad.

okay, im done, ill get out of your way now.

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

haha I feel ya on that one. Primus is weird but its a lot more put together than his other stuff. It's definitely a niche sound that's not for everybody, but that's what drew me to it in the first place.

That would be absolutely incredible, Juggalos would be rocking the fuck out. If it's Les by himself it will be way more jammy but again I think the Juggalos would just love that shit. I mean come on tell  me this wouldn't be a cool sight at the Gathering:
