I was just reading on (hed)pe's facebook page that Mark Young and Jaxon left. Wtf man. Mawk has been there from the beginning and Jaxon has been there for over 10 years. Now Jared is the only original member. I wonder why they left? I mean they just put out an album last year and it seemed like they were really embracing it. I thought it was decent. It had more of a slow metal feel to it and a little reggae at the end was nice too. I know they tour..a lot. I saw them 2 years ago play at this small dive bar and there were no more than 30 people there. Thats gotta take its toll having to tour your ass off just to make ends meet. I respected them for not giving up and staying true to their music but now that there is only Jared left from the original line-up I wonder how much more there will be. With saying that though, when DJ Product left it felt like a huge loss. I saw them after that and as much as I love hed it did feel like something was missing. I just hope Jared doesn't go too reggae-ish. As much as I enjoyed those reggae songs on the last album I hope its not a sign of things to come. I mean I check setlist.fm to see the songs they are playing and they STILL play "No Woman, No Cry". I was cool for one tour but ALL the time now...wtf man. Plus they seem to be playing the same songs over and over. I was gonna go see them in Lancaster tonight but I saw them last year in Baltimore area and its pretty much the same songs. How about some other song from "Truth Rising" other than "Whitehouse"
I dunno folks it seems like it might be nearing soon to end of the road for hed. I hope not because I love all their albums and still like seeing them live but it seems like the thrill is gone. Jared even says on stage how he tours to feed his family. I get that and respect him for doing it but (hed)pe is more than just Paulo Sergio Gomes and what HE needs to do to provide for his family. But if they do evolve I hope they don't try a new formula. They have their loyal fans and people know their style. I'm not saying just keep doing the exact same thing but don't go from (hed)pe to Dred Pe or something different. Stay true to what is left of your roots.
How much longer do you think (hed)pe will be around
- 5+ years
- Less than a year
- 1-3 years
- 3-5 years

I saw Hed open for Slipknot and Mudvayne back in 2000 at the Palladium in LA during Slipknot self titled release and holy shit was that a great show...Slipknot and Mudvayne's career took the fuck off(especially Slipknot) but HEd always seemed to remain stagnant and never really went anywhere. They are an opening band. The members are probably tired of the same old shit and not really getting anywhere. I don't blame them for leaving...their new music isn't that good anymore imo...first 2 or 3 records were good but then they just get repetitive...I think they are a good opening band for getting the crowd hype for whats to come but sadly thats all they are good for imo...my 2 cents.

Yah I hear what you're saying. When I would see Mark playing it looked like he was on autopilot. After their 3rd album I stopped listening but I saw the DIY video they did and I got back into them. The music had more punk roots and the lyrics weren't ALL about getting high and bangin hos(which is always a good combo) =) They definitely have been stagnant though. I just love their music and it gets me pumped still so I still support them when I can. Plus it reminds me of my youth and an awesome time in my life. We bumped (hed)pe a lot.

I almost was gonna put something about The Clue. Funny thing is I actually dig that style of music. It reminds me of Prince, Rick James, or The Time. I remember last year the people at the gathering dressed as Jared in The Clue video and chanting for them to play The Clue songs. Jared let them get the best of him that night. He kept bringing it up the whole set. I still liked their set and it was hella cool to see (hed)pe @4 in the morning. I kinda felt bad for the dude though.
He does move and dance his ass off though. Can't say the guy doesn't give it his all. Spandex superman over there

Exactly. That was what he was into back then. Dude was dancing his ass off and playing music. And I hear ya with DRE. I still bump the Word Class Wreckin Cru' song "Turn off the lights"

I've been a fan for years, but after DJ product left and a mediocre release, I was starting to lose interest. Now I'm really not sure what to think. If the band continues on then I guess I'll give them another shot, but at this point I'm not very hopeful. At least their old albums still sound good.

I'm pretty much of the same opinion, @neverthrive . Without Product, it kind of seemed like the writing was on the wall, so to speak. Then again, when Pig Benis and Gravy left Mushroomhead (soon followed by Lil Dan), I felt the same way... But the Righteous and the Butterfly was a pretty damn strong album (even though it seemed to showcase J Mann, rather than the "new" guys). This year's Gathering will be the first time I've seen 'em live with the new lineup though, so I s'pose the jury is still out.
Long story short, sometimes an infusion of fresh blood is just what a band needs. Only time will tell whether or not this holds true for Jahred and company.

Dammit. i fucking had this feeling after the plea for donations so mark can make rent..dude I'm saying fuck it it seemed stale as shit but it works anf they belong there a lot of the mainstream fans will be pisssed off but he'd pe needs to sign with psychopathic records be they're main attraction. he'd pe deserves it. he's jahreds down. and honestly they need the exposure. But trauma and mark have to come. back

Those dudes have sold enough records that "making rent" shouldn't even be close to questionable. Whether they're living beyond their means, or blowing cash on drugs, or whatever - if they're financially struggling, they brought that shit on themselves. And I say this shit as a huge fan of theirs.

How many meths does a "making rent" cost? Also to be fair doing drugs in a shitty car is wack... If you are going to be a hardcore drug user you have to do it full bore or not at all...its not the players its the game man.

I didn't even know Mark was trying to raise money. I just googled it and it is for his work visa to be able to stay in the states. I felt the same way though how losing him is losing a huge part of the band. Now its only Jared from the original lineup. I think Trauma is still the drummer but Jaxon left. Jaxon was with them since Only in Amerika which was the first album after they left Jive Records. He is IMO another big piece of their independent "success". I quoted it because if they were successful they wouldn't need to raise funds for Mark. But they still kept cranking out kick ass albums and keep the (hed)pe machine going. Only time will tell I suppose.

Agreed. I still buy their records, drive near and far to see them, and always buy merch at the show but it gets old hearing Jared talk on the mic about how "this is how I put soy milk on the table for my son". I get it...they aren't a big as they were, they never hit the levels of other nu metal bands, and they play shitty venues with awful booking but wtf man. If it isn't padding your bank account then maybe its just time to let it go. I hate saying that because like you I love the group. Let's Ride is one of my fav songs of all time but maybe its ran its course. Anyways, since your a huge fan too what is your fav album from their indie label releases? Mine is Truth Rising. Their first 2 albums from Jive were like anthems for my youth but I love what they did after that even more.

I don't know much about the behind the scene stuff with them but are they really hardcore drug users or even some of them? I remember Jared said he was done with drugs when he was talking about making their last album. Oddly enough he hit the big bong during their set at the gathering and that was months after he said he was done with drugs. Plus in early 2014 their tour was called "The Chemical Free Tour" Guess there was more going on over there.

I like the new one. It's got more of a groove metal feel. Nothing like a Pantera groove or even Down but its decent. My only complaints is that is doesn't have ANY punk feel to it at all. I mean c'mon now how many times have we heard Jared say something about punk rock in a song. Plus it doesn't have the usual raunch of a hed album. I missed that when I finished the album. It seemed more like an experiment album for them...hopefully it was. My ranking goes like this
- (Hed)pe
- Broke
- Truth Rising
- Insomnia
- Only in Amerika
- New World Orphans
- Back 2 Base X
- Evolution
- Blackout

I've never bought Jahred's story that Blackout was what the label forced them to release, to explain away (or excuse) its more mainstream feel. As much as I've liked the band over the years, I think every time they changed stylistically was an attempt to appease a different audience... To the extent that I'd damn near accuse them of "selling out" on every album from Blackout forward. And, in doing so, I think every change they made resulted in them losing a percentage of their original fanbase. Which led them to the dire straits they're in, now.
Ironically, despite my accusation above, each of those changes resulted in songs I really enjoyed. So, I suppose I was lucky in that my music taste evolved right alongside of their attempts to reach other audiences. Strange, but true lol. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have remained a fan.

I have yet to hear a (hed) pe album that I can listen all the way through on. They have some really good shit but every couple of songs Jahred tries to rap or just make weird ass sounds for no fucking reason. I feel the same way about them as I do with KMK. They're a solid opener but that's it. As far as their longevity, I'm sure they'll be around for awhile but so far removed from what they were that they might as well have a different name.
The Clue fucking sucks and the way Jahred has handled it makes me like him even less than what I already did but dude use to be able to fucking shred on keyboard. Ignoring the fact that it sounds like terrible 80's music (redundant), his skills were legit on that thing.

I know someone who has sold Jared both Coke and Oxys...and he wanted Meth but we couldn't supply that...Thats the only band member I can assure you did drugs...this was 2011 or 2012. The same guy also pitched to Mushroomhead and Dope...sorry to ruin their illusion if there was one. He is now a chef at a strip club...true spit.
