DJ Paul Confirms A Reunion Of Three 6 Mafia Members, With New Group Name
Exclusive: DJ Paul brings back Gangsta Boo, Koopsta Knicca, Lord Infamous and Crunchy Black as Da Mafia 6iX. He also confirms that he is not working at all with Juicy J on "Stay Trippy."
Rumors of a full-out Three 6 Mafia reunion have been circling this week with speculation that the comeback would feature all of the Memphis, Tennessee group’s members. Speaking exclusively with HipHopDX this afternoon (June 7), founding group member DJ Paul laid out what fans can expect from the upcoming group and why they have taken on a new name.
“Well, the first thing I want to clear up, and I cleared it up on Twitter yesterday, it’s not a Three 6 Mafia reunion [per se], because all the group members not in it—[Juicy J] is not in it—so it’s not considered a Three 6 Mafia reunion because it’s not Three 6 Mafia," clarified Paul. "I like to look at it or call it just a new project [or] group, it’s a new group, a totally new group—for the most part—and it’s a new project. Like I said, J’s not in it so it can’t be Three 6 Mafia because one of the key members not in it. So I just look at it as a new project that I’m taking on [or] a new group that just happen to be with people that I’ve known for most of my life and that I trust, so that’s why it don’t have the Three 6 Mafia name. In actuality, it’s kind of a Three 6 Mafia reunion, but I don’t want to call it [that], I’d call it a reunion of members of the Mafia, the members who I brought in the group. These are all the people that I brought into the group, these are people that I went to school with or blood-related to. So, it’s a reunion of the members that I brought into our clique.”
When asked about the specific members of the new group, DJ Paul, who is back and forth between his hometown of Memphis and creating music in Hollywood, California, provided the names of all other previous Three 6 Mafia members besides his current partner and co-founder Juicy J; Paul also described the altered group name and the initial response he’s seen from fans: “Koopsta Knicca, Gangsta Boo, Lord Infamous and Crunchy [Black]. The name of the group is Da Mafia 6iX. So like I said we can’t consider it a Three 6 Mafia reunion without all the members of the [group] being in it so we’ll just say that it’s a reunion of members of the Mafia that created a totally new group called Da Mafia 6iX. [Fans] are going crazy about it on Twitter, they happy as hell, they’ve been waiting on this for years, some of these members have been gone since 2000, you know, it’s 2013.”
Given his absence in the new group, Paul also added that he has remained on good terms and is often in contact with Juicy J though they no longer collaborate musically: “We still talk. But no, I’m not on his album and we haven’t did nothing musically. But we still talk because we still own all the companies together, we still get big checks together, so we still talk business stuff but I’m not on the album.”
Da Mafia 6iX has not yet announced an official release.
http://t.co/IXuhOtXjEM Nice article but fyi everyone, @damafia6 is not a Three 6 Mafia reunion. If its not all 6 members its not 3-6 Mafia. Me n J r still kool so dont get it twisted. This is basically a new group/project im takin on as u see me doin new projects every week but this one jus happen to involve peeps i trust n have known almost my whole life.

Three 6 Mafia Reunites For New Project, But Without Juicy J
Three 6 Mafia was once a group that had six members. The Memphis outfit often created gangster rap over dark, menacing production. Music critics once deemed them horrorcore, but their rise into the mainstream came from Most Known Unknown released in 2005. This was the album that spawned their biggest hits such as “Stay Fly,” “Poppin’ My Collar,” and “Side 2 Side.”
There have been many shifts in members over the years. The original members—Juicy J and DJ Paul—released 2008’s Last 2 Walk that brought them back to their hardcore roots. However, Triple Six Mafia were left in limbo and many fans wondered if their hiatus was permanent. Now, in an interview with AllHipHop, Gangsta Boo has confirmed her involvement of a reunion.
Boo, who just released her mixtape It’s Game Involved, says she jumped at the thought of a reunion after getting a phone call from DJ Paul. The new Three 6 Mafia—now called Da Mafia 6—will include Boo, Crunchy Black, Koopsta Knicca, Lord Infamous and DJ Paul.
One member missing from that list is Juicy J. In our previous interview with Project Pat, he said, “As long as there is a piece of money, and a few companies have asked. They have inquired: ‘Y’all want to do anything with that? Y’all want us to push the project?’ Juicy’s like, ‘Nah, not right now.’ But, he’ll mention something in a minute.” While it may seem money is still an issue for Juicy, the trippy connoisseur has seen a resurgence of his solo career. Just from the looks of his growing popularity on his own, Juicy may be sitting this one out. Plus, we’re pretty sure Laws Of Power is shelved indefinitely.
The reunion project is set to be released through DJ Paul’s own label Scale-A-Ton Entertainment. Check out the artwork of the upcoming project.

I'll definatly check this out, Three 6 in the early days when it was all 6 of them made some of the best dark/horrorcore/southern Gangsta rap of the 90's......... Juicy J not being involved is no surprise he's making a small fortune rollin with Wiz Khalifa and them, cant say I blame him really, when it comes down to it money talks and these dudes aint gettin no younger, I guarantee If it were any other member of the group who had the buzz he has right now they would do the same shit he's doin......... Either way, looking forward to the reunion

so there won't be any three six mafia albums out again? which was just dj paul and juicy j
Maybe when Juicy stops making money with Wiz Khalifa, he'll come back. Right now he's experiencing one of the strangest comebacks in the history of rap, dude is pushing 40 with a 20+ year career under his belt and is more popular then ever. Like I said, cant really blame him for sitting this one out

Wiz sells alot of records and put Juicy on a new level of Popularity, that stupid "Bandz'll make her dance" song gets played so much where I live it aint even funny. Its wack as fuck but I cant help be a lil happy for the guy after all those years of working for it

exactly...I'm not a huge fan of Wiz these days but he brought Juicy J back into the spotlight and now dude is on everything and everywhere...to ask him to put that on hold so he can go back and work with a bunch of guys who could barely get along and work well together back in the day is a little ridiculous...I would love to hear another 3'6 record someday with all of the main members back on it but it'll probably never happen

you guys also have to remember that DJ Paul and Juicy J are the original co-founders of Three 6 Mafia, so i'm sure there are contract and money issues that arise from using the name Three 6 Mafia....that's why it ended up being just the two of them in the end with their last album Last 2 Walk in 2008.
that would be like if Lord Infamous, Crunchy, Gangsta Boo, and Koopsta all got together and decided to do a Three 6 Mafia album on their own....they wouldn't be able to do that shit without Paul and Juicy
