more than anything, i figure its because more people are realizing that they can buy the music they want to, and dont have to listen to the music that theyre told to listen to.

thus, not as many people gettin into 'big' artists, just because theyre big.

You don't think Taylor Swift's album will go Platinum?

It's also because more people are self producing and profiting without having to be tapped into the music industry machine. If you haven't jumped through the hoops of become a member of the RIAA or are not otherwise using their processes, you won't be listed. The RIAA is the enemy of independents. When the indies win, the "industry" loses because their success wasn't dependant on their bloodletting...

It's a shame where the music industry is at right now but times are always changing I guess. People can get anything fairly easy nowadays. Everybody can nowadays access all that and if they really wanted it. But all these factors contribute; lack of interest, who wants to spend $10 on a CD whereas I can 'buy' the single for a $1.

this is true, but i cant imagine many big names are deliberately cutting themselves out of platinum status just to avoid leeches and red tape.

definitely has a big effect on chart numbers and shit like that, though, as far as independents and so on.

Amazon Prime raised the rate when they started streaming music

For the first time since it was introduced nine years ago, the price of Prime is going up. Existing Prime members will pay $99 per year on their annual renewal date and Amazon Student members will pay $49. The Prime Fresh membership fee will remain unchanged at $299
