Why do yall think rappers need stage personas?

Do you feel like the name affects the way you listen to the music?

While we are here what are some of your favorite rap names?

Maybe the stage name is who they become when they perform; it might help with the mythology of their message/art. In speech class we considered the name “Beulah” versus the name “Ginger” and realized we expected Ginger to be prettier. That’s entertainment. I LOVE the names DJ Screw & Twisted Insane, & Gangsta Fag always cracks me up.

As far as an honest answer:

Artists likely take on stage names for various reasons. In the past (pre internet) it could have been to protect their true identities. Maybe they’ve had a nickname their whole life. Maybe they have a character they want to portray and the stage name is the name of that character (as krunk said). Maybe their real name is lame so they use something more marketable. If ICP was just joe Bruce and Joey Utsler would they have the same mystique they had when they were building a following?

Some of my favorite rappers names feel line they just stuck.

Like it was the name they had when they little B.G.s (baby gangstas).

Most of the time when they have a “lil” at first or something.

Then they drop it or something. Not all the time.

My favorites have been

Dre dog aka Andre Nickatina

The Jacka.

Husalah

Mac dre and all his personas. One of my favorite things is like he did become Ronald Dregan or Thizzelle Washington or the Genie of the lamp. I suggest u guys all look into him man he is hilarious.
