does a pot pie count as pie?
how about those hostess fruit pies?
i vote no. even though i used to love those hostess pies. but to call them 'fruit pies' is two lies for the price of one.

By the definition of a pie, yes those things count as pies.
I think ultimately pies win best desert because a pie could be a cake but a cake could never be a pie.
EDIT: I don't think those hostess fruit pies fit the definition.

A pot pie is a term for a type of baked savory pie with a bottom and top completely encased by flaky crusts and baked inside a pie tin to support its shape.
I never cared for hostess.
