It’s close to the Gathering… We get hit every year around this time. Whoever coordinates the spam attacks may know that the site has less moderation during this time. The last couple of days I have seen an increase in the spam with text from various Asian character sets. I have just re-added the Asian text filter that we had on before. It went away on 6/12/2017 when we did an upgrade of the site. This should prevent the majority of the spam. If you have issues posting let me know. I do not expect any since the filter I added was what finally worked last year.

I had to re-add our Asian character post filter due to the increase in spam.  This should stop most of the spam. I deleted over 20 accounts in the last 24 hours and over 400 posts. 

We will always get hit hard this time of year. Our Google Analytics ratings go up due to people searching and visiting our site. This makes us a target of forum spammers since when our audience level increases, the spammers potential audience increases.

Let me know via PM if my character restriction is too draconian. I don’t expect any issues since this is the same code change I implemented last year to stop the Asian character spam.

Most likely not. I tested it with characters within the Korean character set and it blocks posts with those characters now. Most of the ones I deleted today were in a Korean character set.
