i was never good at remembering poets names…

 

kiplings got some good stuff, to wit:

 

when youre wounded and left on afghanistans plains,

and the women come out to cut up your remains,

just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,

and go to your gawd like a soldier.

it is.  i believe its called 'the young soldier'. 

 

that part sticks only sticks in my mind because its shown at the beginning of a movie called 'the beast' that i happen to love.  but the rest is good, too.

I don't know much about poetry other than Poe. The Rose that Grew from Concrete is a good read with Pac's peoms from before he became famous.

Im pretty ignorant of poetry myself, but I always liked Frost when I was in school. My personal favorite poem that pretty much everyone has heard

 

 

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
