Even though I live in Houston, this is not a place I would ever go. Rothko’s paintings are … well … stupid. The fact that this guy was considered an artist is completely beyond me. This is in the very pretentious museum district here in Houston. An area I avoid since the type of people who frequent the area do it in hopes someone will see them there and think they are cultured or something. Some of his paintings:

I took my daughter there years ago when she was a newborn baby; it was the most “in your face” quiet I’ve ever experienced, and I baptized her in the name of kindness with water from the Whirling Dervish fountain. Have a feeling you would be amazed at the architecture of the building, Rob. It’s organic, like being trapped in something alive. How about you road trip to Houston and see it yourself? You could always seek refuge in Austin if things get too Texan.

Hey shaman and Rob can stay at my house. Since we brought the dogs inside we have two igloos outside not being used. They are pretty sweet, even have a weather flap on them and we put the on our covered porch so you don’t have to worry about rain anyways.

I am totally cool with that. Me and my dog’s love are so strong I have no issue letting him bone who he wants. We are very secure in our love.

I fucking love rothko’s work. He is probably my favorite abstract expressionist.

His work isn’t about pretentiousness. His work isn’t about being something. There’s nothing to “get”. It’s about reacting to large fields of color. Looking at it on a computer or your phone doesn’t really convey what it’s like.

His work Is large. And he doesn’t paint them, he stains them. His technique, his scale, and the role he played in the new york school were all what made his work worth money, not their images.

I plan on it someday but jc and I were talking about rothkos work so it made me wonder who i could talk into going lol.

Your experience sounds fantastic.
