So my muffler just fell off my fucking car, I think the u-joint rusted off or maybe the pipe the muffler’s connected to is what rusted, either way i prolly need to replace that whole pipe and get a new u-joint. Thankfully the muffle is A-ok and aside from labor i think that wouldve been the most expensive thing, either way, anyone have an idea of a ballpark estimate For repair cost? I’ll know by the end of tomorrow anyway, just wondering if anyone can help prepare me for the headache.

1990 honda accord. I bought it for $800 in january and have since had to replace the entire brake system ($1200), a new windshield  ($300), fix my tail lights ($15), and I hit my friends truck door ($1600). And now this shit.

Mine fell off a few months ago on the way to get pizza. It was raining and it sparked in the road and shot flame up… anyway, I took a coupling and wedged it between the rusted out part and the catalytic converter just to get it to the shop. I told them just give me a decent patch job. They did for about forty bucks. Runs fine. The check engine light even came off.

HOWEVER and this is a big HOWEVER, just a couple days ago my wife’s Subaru got loud as shit. We thought it was the muffler, maybe a pinhole. Her dad took it to the shop without telling us. They did a $500 catalytic converter job or some shit. He paid it all too. Lol fuuuuck that.

Good luck to you. Hope its the former not the latter.

This is why I do as much work on my truck as i can myself. U got raped with that 434 bro. Hey live and learn, i did.

Fuck repair shops! Once it’s in there they’re gonna find “extra” stuff to do that they claim is needed and they’re gonna kill u with the hourly charges.

Replacing the muffler on my dodge cost about $75 and about 1 hr of my time..

I’ve take the art doing my own repairs – fucking sucks but a Haynes manual and YouTube it is possible (I don’t do all repairs). Insane how expensive auto repair places are. Any kind of work done and it is almost guaranteed it will be over $400.

Yea my buddy taught me to do brakes for my birthday last year.  Way better present then some bitch ass money….saved me a chunk of change.  I bought the pads and went to a shop just to laugh at the guy when he told me 280 for labor.  I looked him in the eyes and said fuckit ill just do it myself…he looked quite confused when I stormed out.

Hell yeah same thing in NC when after a “free break inspection” they tried to get my permission to repair for $469. I said “take it down”. I paid them nothing, ordered the rotors, pads, etc myself for under $150 and had my Mexican mechanic Jesus do it for $50 and two dozen homemade NY buffalochicken wings, courtesy of my mama. Once he fixed my wiper blades for a dozen.
