Not my state and weed is not my thing but I have issues with the study they used to push this proposal. And yes, it is Republican backed, so I would normally support it, but using this particular study is akin to “Fake News”. I hope this does not get passed.
HAPPENING TODAY: The House Appropriations Committee will consider a proposal to make a series of regulatory changes involving medical marijuana, including placing a cap on THC levels in smokable pot, 10:30 a.m., 212 Knott Building.
— Florida’s Medical Marijuana Industry Voice (@MMBAFL_Assoc) April 9, 2019
The argument is that THC that is less than 10 percent is medically helpful and THC that’s greater than 10 percent is not medically helpful. I am not sure about the validity of the study used to determine that. The Lancet Psychiatry medical journal is the source of this study ( https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(19)30048-3/fulltext ) and while the results do seem to indicate that “…findings show that among the measures of cannabis use tested, the strongest independent predictors of whether any given individual would have a psychotic disorder or not were daily use of cannabis and use of high-potency cannabis.” ,which may be completely true, I do not agree with the method of analysis used.
They specifically state “Assuming causality, we calculated the population attributable fractions (PAFs) for the patterns of cannabis use associated with the highest odds of psychosis and the correlation between such patterns and the incidence rates for psychotic disorder…”. When has “assuming causality” ever been part of the scientific method? If they want a valid study that follows the scientific method, they need the double blind method of data sampling with no assumption of causality or direction in the evaluation of the data. What they concluded may be accurate or may not be since their method of reaching the conclusion did not eliminate confirmation bias. In fact, assumption of causality in data evaluation increases such bias.

So easy to refute all of this with a mixture of both life experience and accrued knowledge but why bother? If ignorance can make it this far then it would cost too much energy to stop it.
Maybe it is worth the fight?
If they are going to try to base legislation on a study that was conducted with stated assumed causality (against the principles of scientific method), then something needs to change. They want to cap THC at 10% based on a false study.
You know that I am not a marijuana advocate but I am also not really against it. What I am against is non-scientific research being used for legislative decisions. I’ve seen it on all sides of the political spectrum. This time it is a Republican backed legislation proposal based on bad scientific method… Actuall not bad, it is flat out non-scientific.
If they can’t do the study correctly, then how am I to believe that what they want (10% THC cap) is beneficial or in my best interest. It makes me doubt what they are claiming. They could have done the study correctly but they did not. Are they limiting the THC to force people to have to buy more for the needed medicinal purposes? Sounds like they just want the increased tax revenues of making people buy twice as much or more for the same effect. Is it because they have monetary interests in Big Pharma and want to lessen the effectiveness of something that threatens their stock portfolio? It makes me question their intentions.
They need real studies that follow scientific method. If such a study does not indicate that what they assumed was a causality, then they need to stop with such a proposal. Using non-scientific method is, as I have said, akin to fake news and is ultimately detrimental to what the intended legislation claimed to address which is, in this case, mental health. By using “Assumed Causality”, they may be attributing something as the cause which is not truly the cause. True cause is overlooked. We end up not getting any closer to fixing any mental health issues but are actually getting further away from the truth.
Sorry about the rants. Not sure why this issue is such a problem for me. I think all comes down to the non-scientific method being used in “official” studies. What is worse is that it is the reasoning behind legislative proposals. Just bad all around – for trust of motives, for trust of “studies”, for progress towards solutions.

Mind if i jump in?
How does the legal state work? Pennsylvania may be taking up recreational marijuana use. I work in PA but live in Ohio. Bringing it home for use is trafficking yes? Smoking up and driving home is impaired driving? Im going to need a designated driver to smoke?
Yeah bitches, im that short gentleman mentioned in that youtube video.
And the very nice, level headed guy from that other youtube video.

I’ve been over this in other threads. I just am tired of talking about it all.
Perhaps tomorrow. It is worth fighting, though, Psyral.
And Drunkalo, any trafficking across state lines is just that. Even between two legal states it is illegal, in different extents.
I do know that you can fly within Oregon from say Portland to Eugene if you have a medical card. Or something I dunno lol.

Just like OMD said about every state that is already with times(high?)…
Recreational weed in Pennsylvania is legal for its residents that CAN and did vote to legalize it. The plus side is tourists can partake legally IN Pennsylvania, but doesn’t exclude you from failing a drug test from a job or a probation officer. Trafficking a personal amount is nothing to be concerned about tho, only if you got stopped at the border lines would you be liable for trafficking, unless your a dumbass and admit you got it in PA. That means you should leave the products packaging in PA.
And if you didn’t know Ohio is one of those behind in the times states that can fire you for no reason. Also Ohio allows you to have 2 grams shy of a quarter pound before its considered a felony and/or trafficking. That means your most likely to get a ticket and sent on your way.
Edit:
Fuck Florida

Florida: We need weaker marijuana!
Also Florida: We flood the country with pills making sure addicts get their fix and no one does a fucking thing about it!
Also Also Florida: We Then offer “rehab” to people we’ve made addicted just so we can make money off of insurance and never actually help them!

I thought this is how most of the continental U.S. operated, Didn’t know it was exclusively a Florida thing.
Is anyone really that surprised about the medical cap on marijuana in Florida, which is part of the south?
These bible beating Republicans down here are not going to let up anytime soon on the days of years past, or financially lucrative laws designed to ensure their bank accounts stay healthy.
In my neck of the woods, New Orleans, a Marijuana coalition is buying every billboard near a dense populated area and Boasting about the monetary value of legalization.
In the city if you are caught smoking, or have a small amount of Marijuana on you, it’s a 50 dollar fine, and off you go.
Simple.
Every other parish (Louisiana does not have counties) you’re going to have to take that ride and get extorted for your cash, and yes, prison time is a real possibility at this point…for a joint.
We have medical, non smokable, but its next to impossible to get and the god fearing church folk protest it more than the planned parenthood clinics, lol.
Remember, we have more prisoners incarcerated, per capita, than anyone in THE WORLD, so anything that threatens the cash cow is shot down Instantly.
What bewilders me the most is Everyone from every walk of life and generation smokes Weed down here in this state, or is in favor of Legalization, so this tells me that lobbyists are to blame for the obstructionism occurring currently with our laws.
So until a major southern state, like fucking Texass, leads the way, its reggie Bush bama for most, unless you travel or have the hook up.

Not only per capita. The States have the highest incarceration rate, period. The highest number of people, the highest per capita. We are in the company of places like Rwanda, Thailand, Cuba, and El Salvador for the incarceration rate.
Good news though: the prison population has gone down slightly. About 4% since 2015.
Nebraska still has the second most overcrowded prisons in the country though…

Everyone smokes weed.
Especially baby boomers who are in a position now to dictate policies, hence, why you are able to sell it quasi-legally.
Them WW2 stiffs weren’t having ‘dope’ being sold in America, besides, it made black folks rape white women (See Refer Madness propaganda video)
Don’t know if I’d ever work in a place that deals in all cash transactions though..
Yikes…

I know that everyone tokes. I deal in a lot of farmers, Republicans, Somalian refugees, business folks, transvestites, thugs, preppies, dog lovers, teachers, scrubs, soccer moms… list goes on. I just thought it was adorable that this guy was rocking the hat because I haven’t seen one in person til today.
Also, we take Visa, Mastercard and Discover. No American Express or USAA cards. We have been doing it for years and are actually one of the very, very few dispensaries that take cards.
So, definitely not all cash. Of the total 4.7 years we have been open, we probably took only cash for like 1.5 years tops.

Don’t know how y’all’s establishment has a work around but others dont. Other people I know in your field of work literally hire armor trucks and guards to pick up and make deposits.
Interesting.
Like, I’m not swiping your card for this weed..that would be illegal, I’m charging you for this shirt and an 8th comes with it for free, Wink.
Ah, yes, I see.
Thank you, and do stop by for some more….shirts, wink.

You’re not right at all there. I’ve been to establishments like Native Roots Medical on 16th St Denver and they took my card but sort of through some kind of ATM method.
Our place has been doing 100% legit business using cards for years. You basically have to do business with what is nicknamed a “bud bank” in the industry. These bud banks are actual banks that have, for lack of a better word, COJONES. These cojones enable an American banking business to know the federal risks involved with doing business with a legal cannabis dispensary in Colorado. Even one of our competitors up the road has begun taking cards (debit only for them, for some reason).
I just bought a gram of Purple Punch with my Visa credit card. 100% legal. Nothing shady about it.
As far as shirts…. that’s embarrassing because we barely sell any shirts at all.
P.S. although we dont do that with our weed… I am familiar with that “buy something legal and get a legal ‘gift’ in return”.. we once bought an $85 pet cage that came with two ‘free’ Sugar Gliders. (Ain’t aposed ta buy em)
