We have no fucking idea

The Electromagnetic Force is a fundamental force like Gravity. We observe it, we know what happens empirically. We can predict what will happen given a set of conditions and properties. But why does it work? Like hell we know.

“Oh, but the molecules have an electric charge and when they line up they form a field…”

Thanks, but please explain why this field formed because of this.

Okay…What’s causing the Forces?

“The electric charge…”

How?

And so on.

There’s a theory out there that what’s happening is that little things called “force carriers” are constantly traveling between particles and that’s what causes “force.” That theory is pretty bonkers and crazy inelegant.

Why do I say this?
Because the only way to advance/confirm the theory is to spend a lot of money to smash things very fast.

What’s considered an elegant theory? Think Einstein. All it really needed was a brain and some time to think.
