They are going out acting a stoned fool and behaving like pricks seeing how far they can take it.  The gist of the film is that every year for like 12 hours [if I remember right] you can do anything you want, which mainly seemed to be that it was okay to kill poor people because if you kill them all there will be no poor people left.  While I was totally disgusted by that part of the film, I did enjoy the fact that the guy and his family who basically spearheaded the idea as well as the super fancy home defense shit ended up getting a pretty good amount of purging.  The funniest part about it?  His own fucking neighbors were the ones doing it to him and conspiring against him for making them live in fear every year because of that shit.  

Oh and while the “kill the poor” aspect was the more apparent part of the film, there was an underlying sense of “if you have the chance to exploit an ultra rich person, take it”.

You explained it better than I could and I seen the damn movie in theaters. I got the same gist from the movie as you did. Also had way too much fun laughing as that super fancy house get purged.

It’s probably because I’m used to explaining things in detail [I occasionally write text based guitar lessons for Ultimate-Guitar from time to time when I have the chance] so I was able to go into more detail because of it I guess.  

The funny thing is though, The Purge isn’t even all that original.  In fact, I think the writer[s] put just enough into the script so that the film companies behind The Strangers and a little known film with Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman called Trespass couldn’t sue. Trespass is estimated to have cost $35,000,000 and only opened to about 10 screens and basically went straight to DVD.  That’s a lot of freaking money for a straight to DVD release and I just wonder… was it made as a tax write off?  Did someone on IMDb add one too many 0’s?  I mean, that film has to be the biggest waste of money ever because even if that film sold a billion DVDs [which it probably barely scratched the 1 million mark] they’d barely manage to pay off a 1/3rd of the debt.

Also heard on the scanner feed that there were a lot of people going around in masks or with their faces painted white banging on people’s doors while screaming, though they’re most likely drunk too. Lots of calls about drunk people and threats called into businesses. Anyone participating in this is an imbecile.

Let’s just hope the media doesn’t twist painted white faces to juggalos causes trouble during some moron’s attempt to cause chaos in Louisville.

I’ve also been tuned into Detroit’s police scanner feed and it went completely dark 5 minutes ago. Their commutations system probably got knocked out. Probably just some idiot just fucking around.

Yeah, supposedly they usually only have like 25k tuned into the scanner feed and last night they had like 87k or something around there according to that link.

The only real impact this hoax had was economical because a lot of people chose to stay home because of perceived threats.

Well, better safe than sorry I guess.  Glad no one got hurt… and I hope no one’s cat got raped. xD
