The other day in one of my art classes we were being lectured about “Happenings” which were basically semi improvisational, participation driven performance art pieces. For instance, an artist named Yves Klein would host an evening where everybody is in formal wear and there’s this band playing classical music and he would walk out all dressed up with perfect white gloves on, then several nude women would walk out, pour paint all over their bodies, and then press themselves up against the wall.

Feminists have critiqued his work pretty thoroughly as exploitative of the women, but he works as a perfect example of what I’m talking about when I say happening. A group called Fluxus was doing similar things without the name happening, I think too.

Anyway, so my point:

I had had too much cough syrup the other night completely and totally  accidentally and not at all as a coping mechanism for my depression or form of addiction and I had this vision of something I would like to do one day. In my vision, other people cared, but when I was more clear headed the next day I realized no one will care until I’m successful enough to make them care so this is all in the distant future right now.

But I saw myself organizing Gatherings. Not “the gathering” obviously, but like, we’ve all seen juggalos who host their own mini gatherings, right? Like doing that on my own but not an exclusively juggalo thing.

Basically I saw it as my art mind and my juggalo mind colliding in a weird, semi improvisational party with music and faygo and naked people dancing around, a guy in a batman costume with a big dildo on his speedo, bullhorns and fireworks and everything you see at a gathering circling around a painting session with hundreds of people just participating randomly in a HUGE piece. Like, while music is going on and everybody in on their drug of choice and all that random chaos, in the middle is this beautiful, random, totally spontaneous piece of art.

Imagine bizarro world out in the real world, with a communal art piece at the center. To gather, not only in body and spirit, but in talent and creativity.

And really, the Gathering has this in a lot of ways, just much, much, much larger and there is no central communal art piece but instead a million little things going on like Bizarro world, and the wrestling, and the peep this shit stage, etc.

I dunno. I was tripping balls but it sounded so awesome and I just wanted to share it.

Maybe I’ll make it part of my senior project and I can get a bunch of juggalos to go kick it at my schools park with me lol.

whatever i’m going to bed.
