1. How do you feel about augmented reality? The release of pokemon go has set in motion something that will change the way that we live our lives forever. Specifically, how do you feel it will affect the way that we live our lives? Will it be a bad thing or a good thing?
2. Is virtual reality any less real than the real world? If yes, then what separates them? If no, what is it that makes them the same?
3. What do you look forward to in the next 25 years as far a technological advancements?
4. What is your favorite future movie?
5. Would you travel forward in time to see how things turn out? The caveat is you have to find out how you die, and there is no way to change it.

1. i think pokeyman is another great example of an implementation of technologies that we coulda adopted years ago for really useful shit… but nobody cared or even knew it was possible until it became a fad.
2. yeah.
3. well, since flying cars, hoverboards and lightsabers are still nowhere on the horizon… and cell phones and the internet turned out kinda disappointing… all in all, ive quit hoping for fresh new technologies. ill just let it flow, gripe about what we dont have yet, gripe about how buggy the shit we have is.
4. since star wars clearly dont count, ill go with blade runner. or, things to come.
5. if you cant use the information to make a difference, the information makes no difference. if that applies to everything i learn, all it will do is stick me with one hell of a cassandra dilemma.
but if that restriction applies only to my death… that would actually be mad convenient. nothing makes life planning more efficient than actually knowing the deadline.
awfully paranoid, arent you?

I think augmented reality is a very interesting tool, that will come in very hand in the near future. The fact that it took a game to really introduce it in a global scale to the mass isn’t surprising. Commercial use of the technology will grow and learn from it and something had to break it into the mainstream. It’s like with mp3s, or recorded music. We used it for something fun commercially and then we found a lot of other uses for the technology. Well, with mp3s it was about taking something commercial and stealing it originally but you know what I mean. There’s always a technological breakthrough that comes through entertainment that can be applied to more thoughtful application later.
I can’t wait to play with it as art, tbh. I have a VR headset that I just love playing with and once I get my finaid I’m going to buy a 360 camera. I think my art is going to get really interesting once I learn how to do augmented reality shit on top of the 360 recordings. Where the art becomes the show space rather than just a piece hanging on a wall. That’s years down the line though, probably.

VR is a tool that we use. It’s part of the real world. I think the idea that they are distinctly separate is really ignorant. It’s a function, just like the internet or what have you. Obviously, the pokemon we collect aren’t real, physical things but if / when they introduce trading do you think that people will buy the bits of info we call our charmander? Maybe. And how interesting would it be once that becomes common place? Or if other apps develop the same kind of false rarity of data. Diamonds aren’t really valuable, right? It’s a huge scam but we think they are rare so we pay more for them than we do other rocks. We did the same with pokemon cards and pogs and art work and t shirts of tours we never went to. It’ll be crazy interesting to see where that drives our vr and ar worlds.
3. What do you look forward to in the next 25 years as far a technological advancements?
I look forward to playing with it, as an artist.
4. What is your favorite future movie?
I don’t really have one. If we switch it to books, parable of the sower / parable of the talents by octavia e. butler. It’s about how we have to learn to use change to our advantage instead of being it’s victim.
5. Would you travel forward in time to see how things turn out? The caveat is you have to find out how you die, and there is no way to change it.
sure, but only if I could go further into the future than is relevant also. Like, yeah, it’d be cool to see the next 40 years and see me die and see my niece and nephews grow up and have kids and shit, see what I’m looking forward to. See the piece of art that helps me break into the next stage of my success and start working on it, thinking about it etc. But what would actually be interesting is to see where the human species goes. How do we change? What’s the next step in our evolutionary journey?
If you really believed that all lives matter we wouldn't need to say black lives matter
