Well shit, you never know they might bring him back. I wouldn’t count on it, but it still wouldn’t suprise me.
What other major characters have they killed and not quickly explained it away as a simulation or dream or something. This seems like a legit character death.

‘Family Guy’
BRIAN GRIFFIN DIES
Seems Brian Griffin won’t get a shot at a 3rd novel … ’cause the martini-swigging, chick-bangin’ family dog DIED on “Family Guy” last night.Brian — who’s been on the show for all 11 seasons — was hit by a car in last night’s episode … and died from his injuries.
Stewie tried to save his pal by going back in time and preventing the accident — but he had JUUUST taken it apart and was unable to rebuild it before Brian croaked.
Brian was replaced by a new dog, Vinnie — voiced by “Sopranos” star Tony Sirico.
Unclear if Brian will somehow come back to life in future episodes — but we wouldn’t be surprised if he did.
Brian was a good dog. He was an Iraq war veteran. a porn director, coke addict, police dog and (of course) a passionate writer.
Brian was 7ish … or 49ish in dog years.

Fair point, I always overlook Quagmire and of course there are supporting cast roles like Dr. Hartman and Tom Tucker…shit, Carter too, maybe more? I have been reading a lot of speculation that Seth killed off Brian to sabotage the show. He has said on record a few times that he is sick of doing FG and thinks the show ran it’s course years ago. So I guess a plausible theory would be instead of being sick of the vocal work per say, he might just be sick of Family Guy in general and the process of making it. Just speculating.
On the surface, It very well could be just to shake up the show and make things a little interesting. Or it could even be a ruse, this image is making the rounds:

It’s a promo for an upcoming episode, you can see what looks like Brian in the background. Of course this episode is the Grimm’s Fairy Tale Special, making it non-cannon. Whatever is afoot, it certainly seemed like Brian was gone for good given the tone of last nights episode. They closed up most of the loose ends pretty well, with the exception of them traveling in time to the upcoming Christmas in the beginning of the show last night. Will Brian reappear around Christmas to close that loose end or are these just red herrings? I have no fucking clue.

‘Family Guy’ Death
Strong Evidence …
Brian’s DEAD FOR GOOD
Brian Griffin is dead and he’s not coming back … at least that’s the way it appears … because TMZ has learned, the dog that’s replacing him on “Family Guy” has already been booked for several upcoming episodes.
As we reported, former “Sopranos” star Tony Sirico will be voicing Vinnie — pictured above — after Brian was killed off in Sunday night’s episode.
There’s been a lot of hopeful speculation that Brian’s death was a one-episode gimmick — and that the dog will inevitably come back — but that doesn’t seem likely. A rep for Sirico tells us, Vinnie the Dog has already been voiced for another 6 or so episodes.
We’re told there’s probably even more to come after that, too. Translation: Brian’s not coming back … at least for a very long time … and probably never.
Sirico doesn’t exactly have a clear conscience about all of it though — his rep says the actor feels horrible that Brian was killed off because the death of any character is sad … especially a fan favorite … but c’est la vie.
As for why Brian got the chop, a producer for the show said they just wanted to shake things up.

‘Family Guy’ Alert: Brian the Dog Is Coming Back!
“Family Guy” fans can rest a bit easier. It looks like Brian the dog will be coming back, one way or the other.
The Fox comedy plans to bring back the beloved talking dog on Dec. 15, but how he will come back after dying on Nov. 24 is unknown, reports Entertainment Weekly.
The episode titled, ”Christmas Guy,” states that “Stewie devises a master plan to get the one and only thing he wants for Christmas.” Wonder what that one and only thing could be?
Fans were up in arms after the show killed off Brian, and about two weeks later a change.org petition to bring back the beloved furry friend has more than 128,000 supporters. There’s no reported connection between the outrage and the decision to bring Brian back.
But EW adds that the dog will continue to play a role in the show, citing a Maya Rudolph episode set to air next fall, where Brian takes up jogging to impress Rudolph’s character.
After Brian’s death, E! News spoke with “Family Guy” executive producer Steve Callaghan to find out why kill off this show staple.
“This was an idea that got pitched in the writers’ room and it sort of caught fire, and we thought it could be a fun way to shake things up,” he told E!.

Yea, I believe they will bring Brian back, especially after the outcry. Most likely it was a publicity stunt to get viewers back (kinda like the Simpsons/Family Guy collab episode), ratings and viewers of Family Guy have been going down the past few seasons. I don’t think Seth would kill him off for voice reasons seeing how Brian is the closest to his real voice so it is not strenuous on his voice like Stewie or Peter can be.
To me it was all for publicity, I mean even TMZ is reporting about it. We are talking about it, it worked.
Also killing off Brian would be the best option in the long run. 1. It’s logical, him being a dog makes him older than the others (even though Stewie is still like 3 for however many years) 2. He is a loved character by the fans but also by Stewie (so they gain attention but also have a way to eventually bring him back, I mean Stewie did create a time machine once already) 3. No other character in the Griffin household would matter much if killed off. (If they killed Stewie they would get shit for killing a beloved child, who the fuck cares about Meg, no one likes Chris either really, Stewie would make sure Lois stays dead, and well you cant kill Peter that’s like killing Steve Erkel.
