Today, VA Republican Rep. Tom Garrett announced the introduction of legislation aimed at decriminalizing cannabis at the federal level.

The ambitiously named “Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2017” would actually take cannabis off the federal controlled substances list—leaving regulation up to the states and essentially giving the herb the same status as alcohol and tobacco. The bill revives an effort first launched in the Senate by Bernie Sanders in 2015.

This is what Republicanism… True Republicanism… is all about. Very few true Republicans out there. Even though I am not really big on cannabis, I fully support anything that takes control out of Federal hands and returns it to a state level.

They expect this to have a lot of bi-partisan support.

There’s hope for you yet, Psyral.

And none of the moving cannabis to Schedule II bullshit… that doesn’t help much at all.

Hopefully this goes through. I need to take a better look at the fine print when I get a chance, but the idea is genuine enough.

There is nothing wrong with either a Republican nor a Democrat who has integrity and is willing to actually have the hard conversations that need to be had.

This though, this should be an easy conversation to have to anyone who advocates State’s rights.

Garrett’s bill is identical to legislation introduced in 2015 by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). That bill didn’t receive any co-sponsors, nor did it get a Senate hearing. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) has already signed on to Garrett’s bill, as have Rep. Scott W. Taylor (R-Va.) and Rep. Jared Polis (D.-Colo.).

This should get plenty of bi-partiasian support. I hope President Trump will sign it if it comes to his desk.

The High Times article mentions “leaving regulation up to the states and essentially giving the herb the same status as alcohol and tobacco.” Keep in mind states’ rights would likely end where the ATF begins in that scenario.

I wonder how the proposed change would effect the current drug testing requirements for welfare/public assistance recipients in some states.

Or the countless people in prison on bs marijuana charges

Maybe you and @smashthejars can work together regarding prisoner support. Steer clear of DOJ statistics though, as they counter your narrative.

Did anyone else see or hear about Jeff Sessions back pedaling on his whole marijuana stance?  He’s now saying its up to the states, and he’ll basically be damaging his career with is outlandish stance on marijuana.

I just briefly seen something on Hightimes IG page about this AND how Trump was trying to federally decriminalize, I guess.  Trying to come up with more income to pay for his plans that he’s trying to put in place.

Note:

I’m not political at all, I could give a fuck who the president is….but I like this subject.

I read somewhere that florida might decriminalize it and only give you a $100 fine for possessing less than an oz.

Sessions recently said marijuana is “‘Only Slightly Less Awful’ than Heroin.”

source: http://www.newsweek.com/jeff-s…..ids-568499

He seems to not consider medical pot a viable cure for opioid/heroin addiction. Science will demonstrate facts, and the free market will adapt. One thing pot activists CAN do is encourage douchebags not to crash news reports about alleged child rapes and smoke out in the background. It makes smokers look sociopathic.

“‘Only Slightly Less Awful’ than Heroin.”  Jesus Christ!  That’s crazy, all these rich old white people from the Refer Madness era still need to die off….

Pam went to a party last weekend and snorted marijuana, she died within hours.
