Folding@Home is software that uses your PC's processing power to fold proteins related to various diseases, which helps to create new ways of treating those diseases. You can let it choose any diseases on its own, or pick a specific focus you care about (covid, alzheimer's, cancer, huntington's, and a few others).

The number at the end of that URL (which is the team's home page) is the Team Number you add when you sign up/run the software.

Neat. I did something similar with astronomical data. I participated in a "crowd-processing" pool for that. I think it was a joint Nasa-MIT project. I only participated for like a week and I have no clue if my computer's processing "found" anything in the data.

Since the one you are using has a linux 64bit version (along with PC and Mac), this is something that can be setup on a Raspberry Pi4 (I think 4 is when they went 64bit) and just have it run on a shelf somewhere. Won't have a lot of processing power, but it will contribute.

PS...

And (not trying to be political) but THIS is the way to combat viruses. It's about finding ways that destroy the virus's ability to do anything. It doesn't "fool" the body into immuno-responses. This is about creating CURES for viruses, not periodic vaccines, not therapeutics, but CURES.

Hilarious that genuine applied scientific inquiry comes with that disclaimer these days.

I appreciate your fervor, but its wiki description is literally as follows;

Folding@home (FAH or F@h) is a distributed computing project aimed to help scientists develop new therapeutics for a variety of diseases by the means of simulating protein dynamics

But I think we're splitting hairs between therauptics and cures really

Running it in a Pi is a really good idea, I might do that too 🤘

Hah, cuz I didn't find it when I searched 'juggalo' 🤷‍♂️😊

Also I'm a control freak and I like being the head of stuff. And finally, Juggalos@Home is objectively a better name, so, not sorry.

Glad you figured it out but still took us on your elderly tech journey!

I'm am looking into using the Discord Morton's List QuestBot's idle time to do this. It does nothing but wait for input like 99.9% of the time. Why not utilize this idle time for some crowd-processing.
