Richard Gein Interview – 9/27/12

Chad Thomas Carsten: Who is Richard Gein? Describe your personality and why you chose Richard Gein as your Hip-Hop name? Where did you grow up? What age did you start rapping and what influenced you to do so? Describe your early lifestyle and what your average day consists of.

Richard Gein: Richard Gein is a death rapper that loves alcohol and real Hip-Hop! I chose the last name Gein, because in a lot of ways I felt I could relate to Ed, mostly because of family issues. I grew up in San Antonio Texas, born and raised. My day consist of drinking and fucking. I also like to read biography’s of my favorite musicians. Hahaha! That’s basically it. Been writing rhymes since the 6th grade. I made my first demo at 13, actually it was a cover of Geto Boys “Trigga Happy Nigga”!

I couldn’t really write too good at the time.

I used to listen to Insane Poetry’s “Grim Reality” CD so much, I knew the lyrics from beginning to end. Cyco influenced me to be the Geinster.

Chad Thomas Carsten: The main goal behind your music?

Richard Gein: There really isn’t a goal behind my music, it’s just my therapy. I’m surprised so many have liked it. I do music  for me, if others dig it then that’s cool.

Richard Gein: My main influences are Lord Finesse & Kool G Rap. And MF Doom is really awesome too! Ruler Why recordings, all the music!  I have no idea what he uses, all i know is it sounds great when he is done with it.

Chad Thomas Carsten: What’s the story behind the collab tracks with Killah Priest and Insane Poetry?

Richard Gein: Killah priest and Insane Poetry kinda fell in my lap. I didn’t seek them, the opportunity came and i took it!

Chad Thomas Carsten: Your thoughts on the current Horrorcore Hip-Hop scene?

Richard Gein: Most of it is shit. Horrorcore to me is Gravediggaz / Flatlinerz / Ganksta nip, not these 15 y/o kids living with mom in the suburbs trying to sound evil and painting their faces lol

Chad Thomas Carsten: Besides Ed Gein what other serial killers have you researched and why?

Richard Gein: I’ve read on every single serial killer mainly just to understand them.

I read on people to get a better understanding on why they are/who they are.

Chad Thomas Carsten: Top 5 Movies of the 1980’s

Richard Gein:

  1. Maniac
  2. Pieces
  3. New York Ripper
  4. Toolbox murders
  5. Madman

Chad Thomas Carsten: List your dream collaborations Dead or Alive

Richard Gein: Old skool Bushwick Bill, nobody could bring the death like him! I’d also love to work with JuJu of the Beatnuts  or Chino XL! Dead musician, I would have loved Kurt Cobain on the chorus for a Gein track.

Chad Thomas Carsten: The Future of Richard Gein?

Richard Gein: Hmmmmm your guess is as good as mine. To be honest I’m surprised I’ve lived this long, hopefully it will have a good ending. I doubt it, but id like it to.
