Project Switchblade

Project Switchblade - "Aggression" Project Switchblade & DCYDE - "Excessive Exposure" Project Switchblade & MC Rentz - "HORROR"

Juggalos and juggalettes… It’s your boy BeZerk and I am BACK! I’ve been out for a little while dealing with the same personal shit, but never fear, BeZerk is always here. This time juggalos, I got something a little different for you.

Now juggalos, I’ve actually been sleeping on this interview, have no clue why, I just have. I had the chance to see Project Switchblade and Dcyde perform live at WWB2, and to be honest juggalos, Project Switchblade and Dcyde had one of the most energetic and enthusiastic performance I have ever seen, and they had the whole crowd rocking. So needless to say, I was very impressed.

Coming out of St. Francis, Minnesota, Project Switchblade (a plural sounding name, but don’t let it fool you. It’s just one guy) has a mix of rap, screamo, alternative rock, and just his own unique sound, which is always nice to see something new brought to the table. He’s been able to rock the stage with Kutt Calhoun, Open Minded, TC’s finest, MC Rentz, and of coarse all of the SicFux, and on April 20th, The SicFux Deluxe show will be held at Station 4 featuring Haystak and Twistid Insane (as well as all the other SicFux).

So juggalos and SicFux, here’s something new for you to enjoy. Download the tracks provided and enjoy the interview. I will be back another time with some more freshness like always. I’m trying to slow down on how fast I post these mofo’s, so bare with me. Until next time juggalos, have a good one and party hard. Enjoy…

Artist: Project Switchblade
Real Name: Joe (aka hac)
From: St. Francis, Minnesota
Rolls With: SicFux Entertainment

FLH: Why did you choose to go with the name Project Switchblade?

Project Switchblade: Well, it’s kind of a long story… My all-time favorite band is Atreyu, and they used a few logos with switchblades in them, and I’ve always had a thing for knives. So, when thinking of a name for what to call myself I went through this thought process. I don’t consider myself a rapper, and I’m not in a band. What I’m doing is a musical project… So there’s the Project part. The switchblade part comes from me switching up my style as quickly as a switchblade opening (the rapping, to screaming, to singing), and what I mentioned earlier… So, I thought Project Switchblade was a good fit, and yes, I know it sounds plural, but I don’t care.

FLH: Who would you consider an inspiration?

Project Switchblade: Well, I have many inspirations actually. I fucking love horror movies and definitely think that they have an effect on me and my music. Musical inspirations, to list a few, would have to be: Atreyu, (hed) PE, Primer 55, Reveille, Marilyn Manson and American Head Charge on heavier side. My rap side would be Prof, Mac Lethal, Yelawolf, but really it comes from friends of mine… Dcyde, MC Rentz, and of course all my Sicfux family!
My main inspiration however, would have to be my little monster, my daughter Raegan; I just want to be able to give her the life she deserves and to spoil her rotten!!!

FLH: What’s your favorite Faygo flavor?

Project Switchblade: I’m gonna have to go with Blue Raspberry if not mixed with alcohol…
If alcohol is involved, I’m gonna say old school cola with some Jack Daniel’s in there.

FLH: How long have you been doing music for?

Project Switchblade: I started doing music when I was like 14 in high school with friends doing rap music. As I got older, I got into heavier music. Slipknot, Mudvayne, Manson, etc… That drove me to start working on the metal vocals and eventually to doing metal music. I bounced around in a few different bands from 18 to 23, doing vocals, DJ work and sampling, trying to play bass guitar. Every band just dissolved, and after that I kind of fell out of the music scene and was on hiatus for about 4 years. I turned 27 in January 2011, and I had gotten back in touch with some friends and my love of music, and decided I was done being quiet. I was looking for a metal band to join, but had no luck and decided, fuck it… I’m a musical mutt and I’m gonna do my own thing and mix my styles up and not box myself in. For better or worse, Project Switchblade was the result…

FLH: What makes you unique from other artists?

Project Switchblade: I think I’m unique because of my metal background. The fact that I mix screaming into my tracks, the guitar samples, and the fact I can spit, but I don’t look like or consider myself a rapper makes me different. I kind of feel like I’m the black sheep of the underground rap scene because of that, but I wouldn’t have it any other way… I’m too metal for hardcore rap fans and too rap for the metal fans. The fans I do have, have to be and are true music lovers, they are not closed minded towards any style. I guess that’s why it I’m such a good fit with Sicfux, they accept me for me, and support what I’m trying to do…

FLH: You are with SicFux, but who else have you had the chance to work within the underground scene?

Project Switchblade: I’ve done a lot of work with Dcyde; he was really a huge influence and help on putting out “The Mickey Knox EP”. Between him and MC Rentz is where the majority of my beats and support for that came from. I’ve also done work with my homies in Open Minded, Theory, TC’s Finest, and Ordeal the Crucified… I love doing collabs, I can’t wait to keep finding artists to work with!

FLH: Who would you like to work with in the future?

Project Switchblade: I have a lot of big things planned for the near future! Working on my full length album titled “Progression Through Aggression”, which will have many great artists on it, Sicfux family and more… Also, my boy Basick and I are planning on doing an album together! We’re gonna start recording very soon, all I can say is get ready… Aside from Sicfux, I’d like to to work with Liquid Assassin, Grewsum, SwizZz, Zero, and my dream collab would have to be with Jared of (hed) PE. I really think we would fucking murder a track together!

FLH: I’ve had the chance to see you and your friend Dcyde perform live at Wicked Winter’s Ball 2, and I know you’ve done a shit ton of other shows. Who else have you been able to rock shows with?

Project Switchblade: Yeah, I try to get my boy Dcyde with me as much as I can. He’s so fucking energetic and crazy on stage and it just feeds me! I’ve also done shows or sets with Open Minded, MC Rentz, TC’s Finest, Ordeal, and Theory. Sometimes I like to mix it up and have a guest guitar player join me on stage… I’ve had my boy M-bag (formerly of Definition of Dope) join me. I also had my friend Josh D from Bury The Martyr play some guitar live with me too. I like to keep people guessing…

FLH: What do you have coming up? Any CDs, mixtapes, music videos, merch, etc coming out?

Project Switchblade: Available right now you can download “The Mickey Knox EP” for free off my bandcamp page, or buy the hard copy at the new Durt shop or a show for $5. I’m currently working on my first full length album with SicFux Ent that I’ve decided to title “Progression Through Aggression”, and I have to say I’ve never felt more confident in my music! Of course, I can’t forget about the new thing I mentioned earlier, that I’ll be working on is that album with my boy Basick, and I’m fucking excited to get to work on that! Hopefully Project Switchblade shirts will be available soon too. I’m always down to do features with any artists who wanna collab with me… Get at me on my Facebook page, or the SicFux website and contact Jimmy Donn.

FLH: What other shows do you have coming up?
