Juggalos and juggalettes, it’s your boy BeZerk, and I’m back once again, kinda like the herpes. Here I go once again with another UGS. This Spotlight is on a group that I got to see perform live at Wicked Winters Ball 2 (which featured Kutt Calhoun, Snug Brim, BG Bulletwound, Liquid Assassin, Kamikaze and Infinity, Dopesic, Project Switchblade, OPM, Night Shield and Danny Boy, and a shit ton of other people).

Everytime I go to a SicFux show, it seems like there is something new, well new to me. I walked back into the venue during Heat Muzic’s set, and was impressed. Heat Loc hooked me up with his demo, and Tanqueray hooked me up with his CD too. They have been doing music in the metro area of Minnesota (the Twin Cities… St. Paul/Minneapolis for those who failed geography or genuinely just don’t give a fuck about Minnesota) since before my balls dropped. Their stage performance and their lyricism is great, and if I may describe what it was like to walk into it after coming in from outside, it was like a whip kick to the face with music.

So juggalos and juggalettes, I got to go finish dealing with all this personal shit. Feeling like Sam Kinison at this point (seriously juggalos, I had a chick say she’d never marry a juggalo or a scrubb, and now she is going to and it’s not me, and says it wasn’t like that for me haha (while inviting me over to her house to make me supper and shit). It’s the musick I’m telling you fam haha), but nonetheless I will be back with even more underground flavor and raping your earlobes with that shit you just never hear of. So, until next time. Enjoy….

Interview for: Heated Muzic
Real Name: Heat-Loc and Tanqueray Locc
From: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Rolls With: Heated Muzic

FLH: Where did you guys come up with your stage names?

Heat-Loc: Being that I write, produce, perform, and mix my own muzic people alway say I got heat. So the name is what I do, and what I am.

Tanqueray Locc: I actually used to be called J-Loc based on my first name, and the fact that I’m a Loc from S.G.C.G. The name Tanqueray or Tang/Tanq I received from my big bro K-Wood when I was 14 or 15yrs old, because everytime I came around the big homies, I had some Tanqueray Gin. My big bro started saying here comes Tang Loc/Tanqueray Loc, and the name just stuck..

FLH: Who would you guys consider as an inspiration?

Heat-Loc: When I was a young producer, I was always captured by productions from Dr.Dre, as far as production goes, and when I was a young writer, I was always a fan of Mr.Mike, Nas, Brotha Lynch Hung, Top Authority, Scarface you know people like that. 2pac and Biggy were not my favorite rappers, although I was a fan of their muzic. Performance wise, I always loved a great rock show. They are so amazing to me how they interact with their fans at a show so most of my inspiration for performing comes from rock bands.

Tanqueray Locc: My big brother resting in peace, William A. Lacy b.k.a O.G K-Wood to the Twin Cities streets and music scene. He released a tape back in the early 90’s, his group was called Kode Blue & the album was “Marked For Death.” It was the first album I ever produced a beat on. Quiet Loc “R.I.P.,” whom I produced 2 albums for (google him). He always believed in me as an artist and producer, and he only spitt to Tanqueray Locc beats. Others are Top Authority, Brotha Lynch Hung, C-Bo, Mr. Mike, Mac Mall, pretty much any Bay area music. That’s as a MC and a producer. JT, Sean T, Ant Banks, E-A Ski, the list goes on. Can’t forget Flynch, who first taught me to run a studio and Craig Holliman “R.I.P.” of (The Black Room Studio) a true MN legend.

FLH: What is your guys’ favorite Faygo flavor?

Heat-Loc: A T-bone steak cheese eggs and faygo grape!!!!!!!! Jya!!!!

Tanqueray Locc: I gotta go with Peach or Orange!

FLH: You guys have been on the music scene in the Twin City metro area since the mid 90’s. What changes have you guys seen since you’ve first started doing music until now?

Heat-Loc: Mostly the content has been dumbed down quite a bit as far as lyrics. The real “MC’s” have gone away, but…. the production is beyond belief now days. You have young men and women that are dope as hell at producing. I know a couple of producers that are a decade younger then myself that are given the older guys a run for their money. It makes me happy for the future of production.

Tanqueray Locc: Well the scene has most definitely grown, but it is a more separated scene now. When I first started doing music the street music controlled the hip hop scene here, but everyone still worked with each other. You could go to a local show and see political MC’s, street/thug MC’s a 5%‘ers all under the same roof. There is much talent in Minnesota’s Twin Cities, it’s just unfortunate that ego’s and dollars get in the way of making the music we love so much. Honestly though, I don’t think any other city can fuck with us musically. If you’ve ever been to the many shows that go on in this scene here you’d concur.

FLH: What do you guys think makes you different from other artists?

Heat-Loc: My versatility is my strength in all that I do. I’m a big fan of alternative muzic so that flavor can be heard in my production as well as all modern production these days, I can do it all. And when it comes to spittin……I feel I’m in the top 20 in the nation, and that includes all rappers rich or poor.

Tanqueray Locc: I feel that as an artist I have a lot more depth. See you have your singers, your rappers, producers, arrangers, writers and studio engineers. I am all of these, and own my own state of the art Pro Tools HD equipped studio! I’m always open to work with my fellow TC artists with no ego, and the fact the I myself have been an influence to many of my fellow TC artists, veterans and new age alike.

FLH: Who have you guys been able to work with?

Heat-Loc: HHMMM.. let’s see. Production and features…Brotha Lynch Hung, COS, Zigg Zagg, C-Bo, Snug Brim, S.O.B., Tanqueray Locc, Quiet Loc,LiL K-Wood, T.O.S., T.O.N., Lefty Capone, Mista Maeham, Luni Corleone, and many more from the Twin Cities….

Tanqueray Locc: I’ve done songs with damn near all of Madesicc Muzic, Brotha Lynch Hung, Zigg Zagg, C.O.S. Snug Brim, be looking for a full length Heated Muzic presents Snug Brim. I’ve worked with G-Macc, Tre-8, Semi Auto, Ms. Chambers, Young Bleed, Traumaticc, C-Jizzle and Rob Black of S.O.B ENT out of KCMO. Dalima and KC Easterwood, P-Loccsta from the Netherlands. That list can go on as well but the ones I’m most proud of are my fellow TC artists that came up in my era. Like Quiet Loc, Heat Loc and Tragic, Mista Maeham, Kings Of The City, Lefty Capone. Also Liquid Assassin and Killa Capone.

FLH: Who would you guys like to work with in the future?

Heat-Loc: The sky is the limit for me. I am a fan of most muzic, but to name a few I would love to work with, Nippsy Hustle, Cassidy, Nas, Method Man, Mr. Mike, Scarface, Ludacris, Jadakiss; you know real MC’s that got spit and swagg.

Tanqueray Locc: Tech N9ne, Hopsin, and other really creative artists. I’d like to get the lead singer of Flyleaf on a track.

FLH: I was able to see you guys perform at Wicked Winters Ball 2 which featured Kutt Calhoun, Snug Brim, Dopesic, and many more. Who else have you been able to do shows with?

Heat-Loc: Mostly it’s been just me and my team doing tours on our own dime, but I have done a show with Twista and his camp, and Hopsin at Wickedleaks. Other then that there were many shows with rosters jam packed full of underground and upcoming artists. I can’t recall all of them, so to them I apologize.

Tanqueray Locc: I’ve toured with Stevie Stone & Snug Brim. I’ve also shared stages with 8Ball and MJG, Crucial Conflict, Do or Die, JT Money, Twista, San Quin, HomeWrecka, T-Nutty, Hopsin and Swizz, and a few more that have slipped my mind. I been doing this shit for a long time.

FLH: What do you guys have coming out? Any CDs, mixtapes, music videos, merch, etc coming out?

Heat-Loc: Early 2012, I am releasing two albums “Heat Rises” and “200H.” Heat Rises is in the mixing proccess right now, and I’m still working on 200H. As far as mixed tapes my team is working on a Heated Muzic album that should be coming soon along with classic Heated Muzic material that was never released or heard.

Tanqueray Locc: My next album “Memoirs Of A Gangster”, Heat Loc’s “2000H”, J-A Da Goon’s album “Loud” & Lil K-Wood’s “Boulevard Brown”. I have a few other releases also which are old classics of mine that never hit the streets.
