The Pumpkin King

Sup juggalos and juggalettes and scarecrows a like. It’s your nasty freak ninja BeZerk here with another fuckin edition to the Underground Spotlight (42 bitches!!!). This time, I bring you something ultra fresh and awesome, so much so that I halted all my other interviews just to do this one.

Coming out of Pennsylvannia, The Pumpkin King is a rising wicked shit rapper that mixes both the wicked shit we all so love and metal, to make a murder metal rap. I love when different genres get blended together (well when it’s good), and though I personally don’t spend too much time listening to metal, I near shit my pants with how good The Pumpkin King was.

So this week, if you missed the Song of the Week selection, well, I made sure Mr. Pumpkin King hooked you up with the track. So juggalos, juggalettes, and metal fiends, here is your Pumpkin King…

Interview for: The Pumpkin King
From: Central/Northeast Pennsylvannia
Rolls With: Unsigned, Affiliate of S2R (Sidestream Records)

Faygoluvers: Why did you choose the name The Pumpkin King?

The Pumpkin King: When I was like 14-15, I was the classic, die hard, juggalo, and I used to experiment with different styles of face paint. My favorite was a jack-o-lantern style. My best friend at the time kept insisting I go by “Pumpkin Face” and I pretty much snapped back with a smart ass remark of “I’m more like The Pumpkin King” and it kinda stuck!

Faygoluvers: Who do you consider as an inspiration?

The Pumpkin King: Obama! JOKING! Pretty much everyone I’ve looked up to over the years has come to let me down, or publicly embarrass themselves. Childhood idols turn to regular joe’s, sport stars turn drug addicts, and the list goes on. So, I guess in a way, they are still an inspiration.. Just inspiring me NOT to end up like that.

Faygoluvers: What would you say is your favorite Faygo flavor?

The Pumpkin King: That’s a toss up between Rock N Rye, or Coconut Cream Pie.. Depends on the mood I guess! haha.

Faygoluvers: What do you think makes you different from other horrorcore artists?

The Pumpkin King: Well everybody has their own reasons for thinking they are different. Musically, I make the majority of my own beats with real guitar and real bass over a drum loop. Which is pretty rare among underground artists. I also like to blend rock and metal with that wicked rap sound, all while sporting a custom molded latex mask.

Faygoluvers: How long you been rapping for?

The Pumpkin King: I started goofing around with poetry and writing song lyrics between the ages of 13-14, but didn’t actually try rapping or recording anything until I was at least 16. I didn’t see the inside of an actual studio until I was 19. So from the start of actual rapping.. about 6 years.

Faygoluvers: Who have you gotten to work with?

The Pumpkin King: I’ve gotten the pleasure to work with a lot of really talented, pretty unknown underground artists, both local and non. Along with some national acts. Some of my favorites are.. Skitzo Skrilla, D-RaNGD, GrewSum, H8trid, 5:AM, Durte, Intrinzik, Dem Korrupt Boyz, and a new collab with The Wolfpac on my next project!

Faygoluvers: Who would you like to work with in the future?

The Pumpkin King: Personally I’d really like to work with MushroomHead, Twiztid, and ABK, because I know that they can all rock that metal/rap sound in unparalleled ways.

Faygoluvers: Your last album (We’re All Mad) was dropped in 2009. Is there any other CD’s in the works?

The Pumpkin King: Currently working on a new project called “The End Is Mine” due for release 11.11.11. which is set to be a full length CD. All new material, with some amazing collabs.

But my first CD was actually released in 2006 and was called “Harvest Moon.” It was 12 tracks long and my first professional recording. I used the first 3 tracks from that CD to produce a sampler so I could enter “The Underground Psychos” contest the year before.

Faygoluvers: What else do you have coming out? Any mixtapes, music videos, merch, etc coming out?

The Pumpkin King: Currently working on music video production. It seems like everybody has em anymore and only about 10% are worth watching. So I wanna put the time and work into it before I release a video.

New merch is ALWAYS in the works. I currently have PK T-shirts (2 styles), Thongs, Vinyl Stickers, Mini Posters, CDs, and more.

And as for mixtapes.. You know the underground, people will add your track to a mixtape without even asking ya first. So who knows haha.

Faygoluvers: When and where are your next few shows?

The Pumpkin King: None at the moment, but its early summer, school just let out which means show season is about to begin!

Faygoluvers: Shout outs?

The Pumpkin King: I wanna give a shout out to all my homies and fans nationwide, my European fans, and Aussie ones!

My local homies on the grind N3bo, and Durte. (two very underlooked rappers) Along with anyone who holds it down for real underground music! THANK YOU!
