Night Shield

Sup juggalos and juggalettes and all my muthofakos with Native Pride. It’s your boy BeZerk here with some more flavor. My next interview isn’t with a SicFux (this time, I have a few more for you coming out), but is a Native Hip Hop artist from South Dakota.

I met Night Shield at the Hopsin show in Minneapolis. He came with Maniac, and hooked me up with his album Sex, Drugs, and Hip Hop. I was pretty fucking drunk on the way back when we listened to it the first time, so I didn’t remember it, but the next day, I popped it into the handy dandy Xbox and was impressed with what I heard.

Not too often to you get free music in which has quality, meaning, and is worth your time. Not saying there isn’t any, there is a lot, but there is so much shit out there, it’s hard to find the good stuff always. Where I’m going with this, I have no clue.

So juggalos and juggalettes, here is some good hip hop out of South Dakota. If you are in the Sioux Falls area, they are always doing shows, Maniac does some good battles. I didn’t get to check the show that Maniac, Dux, and Night Shield did the day before the Hopsin show, but this is definitely worth your time.

Interview for: Night Shield
Real Name: Gabriel Night Shield
From: Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Rolls With: N.S.E

Faygoluvers: The first question I usually like to ask is, how did you come up with your name?

Night Shield: It’s the name I was born with…

Faygoluvers: Who would you consider as an inspiration?

Night Shield: I can credit a lot of artists for my passion for music and persuing it as a career. Everyone from Krayzie Bone to Haystak to Michael Jackson have had a hand in making me the artist I am today, but if I had to pick one I’d say I’ve patterned most of my life after Dewey Cox.

Faygoluvers: What’s your favorite Faygo flavor?

Night Shield: Ohana Punch!

Faygoluvers: How long have you been doing music for?

Night Shield: I’ve been in the music business for the last 10 years, as both an artist and record label owner.

Faygoluvers: Who have you worked with?

Night Shield: A few of the artists I’ve recorded with are Haystak, Maniac: The Siouxpernatural, F. Dux, Red Cloud, and a ton of others. I’ve shared the stage with Tech N9ne, Kottonmouth Kingz, E-40, Chamillionaire, Twista, Paul Wall, David Banner to name a few…

Faygoluvers: Who would you like to work with in the future?

Night Shield: I’d love to work with Lil Wyte, Three 6 Mafia, or Krayzie Bone would be dope!

Faygoluvers: So after showing up in Minnesota with Maniac, you went back to South Dakota to open a show that featured Stevie Stone, Ruka Puff, and Kaotic. How did that go?

Night Shield: The show was real fun, my homegirl Kaotic runs Sioux City, and it was her record release party so the crowd was real nice. Plus we had Stevie Stone in the building , he just signed to Strange Music, so it was dope to have that energy in the room as well…

Faygoluvers: You dropped Sex, Drunks, and Hip Hop back in 09. Is there any more albums or mixtapes in the work?

Night Shield: Right now I’m working on my 5th solo album, “Sex, Drunks & Hip Hop II: The Hangover”, it’s about 60% complete at the moment, every album I do is basically my experiences at the time the album is being recorded so this album is basically what I’ve been up to for the last 2 years and the chaos that is my life basically. I’m looking to drop it in October of this year.

Faygoluvers: What is your favorite drink?

Night Shield: If I’m partying my beer of choice is Corona & Lime. Boulevard if I’m just chilling in a bar and my liquor of choice is Goldschlager.(*BeZerk here* Damn Goldschlager is a hangover and a half.)

Faygoluvers: So you have a show on May 8th in Harrisburg, SD. Who is on that show? What other shows do you have coming up?

Night Shield: Yeah, I’ll be rocking with my homie Danny Boy and we’ll be performing with Bone Thugs N Harmony, that should be real fun. I’m also working on a setting up my celebration of “10 Years In The Game” show for June 4th in Sioux Falls, SD.

Faygoluvers: Shout outs?

Night Shield: Yeah, I want to shoutout my N.S.E. dude’s, Maniac: The Siouxpernatural & Danny Boy. Them Low Life scumbags F. Dux, B-Eats & Rockin’ Ricky (*BeZerk here again* Ricky fucking rocks). Flame On Ent’s Trey Lane & V The Noble One and everyone who’sever been to a show, bought an album or told a friend about me, I appreciate the support!
