Dark Half

Sup juggalos and juggalettes and underground fiends a like. It’s your boy BeZerk here with my 40th FUCKIN INTERVIEW FOR THE UNDERGROUND SPOTLIGHT!!! That’s right. Since about October (I think), I have put out 40 interview starting with my homie Snypa and now with this one.

Now I wasn’t going to put some band I didn’t even hear about for my 40th (and won’t for my 50th), so I looked thru all the interviews I have stockpiled, and chose some truly horrifying lyrical killas. Coming out of the rival state of Wisconsin, Dark Half has been grind for a little while. I first hear about them like a year ago.

Being the King of Horrorcore’s hypemen, Dark Half has gotten to open and work with a lot of people. They now are currently signed to Lyrical Snuff Productions (LSP) owned by SCUM (another UGS, but one I didn’t do). They also only have more to come, and get better and better. So here they are juggalos. Trust me, if you will like these guys if you haven’t liked what I have put up before. This is truly wicked shit. Enjoy.

Interview for: Dark Half
Members: Damien Quinn and Ian Stone
From: Wisconsin
Rolls With: LSP

Faygoluvers: How did you guys come up with the name Dark Half?

Damien Quinn: Me an Ian Stone always had this different mind state that we felt was far from the norm of society! When I was locked up back in 04′, I actually started reading books, which is fucked up cause back in my teens the only book I ever read front to back was Behind The Paint. Obviously when your locked up, there ain’t shit to do but fucking eat, sleep, play cards, workout, and/or read [*BeZerk here* this is very true]! Anyways, I came across this book named The Dark Half by Stephen King! It really inspired me to make music with darker lyrics, and one day when me an Ian were trying to think of a group name, Dark Half was a name that popped up! Me an Ian loved the idea an we went with it!

Faygoluvers: Who would you guys consider as an inspiration?

Ian Stone: Scooter Ward, Aaron Lewis, King Gordy, Cage, Fiasco Andretti, and SCUM for giving us a great opportunity to be on LSP! Scum’s grind and focus really motivates me to get out there and spit this Wicked Shit, but most of all the memories of my father Mark Erskine, and my close friend Ryan Flores really keeps me driven to create the best possible music I can.

Damien Quinn: King Gordy, Esham, Jamie Madrox, House of Krazees, Violent J, anything from Psychopathic, the whole Wicked Wisconsin movement, SCUM, Fiasco and Bubba for everything there doing for LSP, Cyco of Insane Poetry, Gangsta Nip [*BeZerk here* that’s O.G. wicked shit right there], Komatose, Q-Strange, Syck Syde, Mars, Bedlam, Sicktanick, Razakel, Oderus Urungus, Jared of Hed P.E. and Dark Half’s number #1 fan an our fucking homeboy 4-life Ryan Flores!

Faygoluvers: What’s your favorite guys’ favorite Faygo flavor?

Ian Stone: Grape 1st, and then Moon Mist. So if you ain’t fucking with that Grape or Moon Mist, than we ain’t even cool like that!

Damien Quinn: Shit my favorite Faygo off all time is Blue Moon Mist! Red Pop and Peach are some of my favorite flavors to though!

Faygoluvers: You guys are on LSP with SCUM and have got to do work with a shit ton of people. Name some of the people you’ve got to work with.

Dark Half: Shit we know our memories ain’t that good from drowning the brain with alcohol and frying it with marijuana leaves but shit we’ve done collabs with SCUM, King Gordy, Potluck, Mars, Team Death (Sicktanick and Razakel), Liquid Assassin, Majik Duce, Monsta Squad, Bizarre of D12, The DRP, Fiasco Andretti, Smallz One, MoFoley, Maniax, Brew City Butcherz, Tha Morgue, Outbreak Monkey, Ruthless Unda Ground, A Ron Da Don, and Raven Delavega! If we forgot you don’t be pissed at us, or we’ll rub goat urine in your eyes. Shit, as far as shows go we’ve played with Twiztid, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Anybody Killa, Boondox, Tech N9ne, E-40, Bizzy Bone, Sen Dog of Cypress Hill, D12 and King Gordy, Potluck, Mastamind of Natas, Primer 55, Saint Dog and D.G.A.F., Mars, Grave Plott, Liquid Assassin, Hopsin and Swizzz, Project Born, GrewSum, SicFux an a shit ton of local acts an underground artists some real close homies of ours, but if we got to listing off that shit this interview would be long as fuck no disrespect to anybody straight up though, we got mad love for our people!

Faygoluvers: Who would you guys like to work with in the future?

Dark Half: Twiztid, Mike E. Clark, Esham, Natas, Scooter Ward of Cold, Prozak, KGP, Cage, The J. Hexx Project, Q-Strange, Madness from Bedlam, The R.O.C., Brotha Lynch Hung and shit we’d even like to fuck with Earl Sweatshirt!

Faygoluvers: What do you guys think makes you unique from other artists and groups?

Damien Quinn: Basically the fact that we’re trying to bring theatrics back to the Wicked Shit/Horrorcore, or whatever you wanna call it. It seemed like artists were scared to wear a mask or paint there face on stage, and what were trying to say is don’t worry about what another motherfucker thinks, do you! Back when this genre first started it seemed like everybody was more creative on how they expressed themselves! To us there’s more to this game than just going on stage and rocking a mic, we’re actually trying to scare you!

Ian Stone: I think the more melodic aggressive punchy hooks was a great add on to all of this as well and the fact that were willing to touch subjects some artist might not wanna touch about there personal lives. We tend to mix in personal things that happen to us in our lives and turn them into horror stories!

Faygoluvers: The last concert I got to check you guys at was the Wicked Winters Ball at Station 4 in St. Paul (on a nice cold February day might I add). What other shows have you guys done since?

Dark Half: We always do a fuck load of local shows here in the Wicked Wisconsin and our homie Mo Foley even started streaming them on-line for free! If you check our Facebook page you can find the links. We got to play the Pittsburgh date for Hopsin’s I Am Raw Tour big shout out to Troll, Dan from Columbus and The Gemini Projekt for giving us a great opportunity to come out there and rock it for the fans!

Faygoluvers: LSP is dropping fresh merch on their website all the time. What could juggalos expect for Dark Half flavor? (in other words, got any new merchandise coming out?

Dark Half: We can’t say to much, but LSP is always putting out some bomb ass merch.! We always have ideas for new shit we wanna do, and SCUM is always great at getting that idea out and bringing that product to life!

Faygoluvers: What do you guys have planned for the future?

Dark Half: You can definitely be expecting a video for Dead and Dying off our Chapterz album [also featured on The Musick the soundtrack] sometime here in the near future. As far as releases the next big release for Dark Half, our second LP…”Graveyard Bluez,” but in between the time of dropping that album, we’ll be surprising the fans with some new unheard morbid music! Also be on the lookout for a new internet web show by Dark Half and Dark Half’s return to The Kitchen Sink Radio!
