Eric “Snypa” Phillips is an up and coming rap artist out of the streets and sewers of Chicago. Snypa is newer, but in no way is he a rookie. Already doing shows for Twiztid, Anybody Killa, Kottonmouth Kings, Kung Fu Vampire, Liquid Assassin, Mars, and most recently opening for Tech N9ne and E-40 on The Independent Grind Tour.

At the beginning of August, he dropped his debute album One Helluva Ride which featured Lil Sicc, Intrekit, Spooky, SwizZz, Claas, and the epitome of horrorcore Mars (who also hosted it). Faygoluvers: How did you get into rap?

Snypa: That’s a good question. Well, music has always been in and a huge part of my life. My older uncles and cousins are musicians , I actually never thought I’d be doing the music thing myself. I grew up with a lot of people on the block that always were on and into music, and one day my boy “Smoke Burna” told me to write and spit something on the mic just messin around, well then and there “Snypa” was born,..I have been doing music ever since and love it, it’s my getaway.

Faygoluvers: How did you come up with the name Snypa?

Snypa: Haha, well actually a little bit before I started making music I “earned” that nickname from a couple of my folks over in Zion, Il (incl. my boy “Smoke”), funny story but real talk. I was always known for having a different girlfriend or girl with me everytime I saw my boys or went to kick it with them and they’d always refer or say I was…in their words.. “Snipe’in the bitches” haha so when I started the rap scene and got into it, it was already there up in the air for other reasons so I just grabbed it and then…BOOM..here you have it..SNYPA.

Faygoluvers: You’ve opened for the likes of Tech N9ne & E-40(most recently), Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, Twiztid, Anybody Killa, Kung Fu Vampire, Liquid Assassin, Mars, and many more. Which show was your favorite to do?

Snypa: I loved all of them, but I have 2 personal favorites. My show February 21st, on the “Domestic Violence” tour w/ Mars & Anybody Killa in Chicago, my favorite being because Mars is my boy, and its always fun to kick it with him when he comes around. I also met Anybody Killa and ended up going to his hotel afterwards, and they’re both just some real down to earth cool ass mothafuckas. My 2nd would have to be Twiztid, April 2nd show on their “Slaughterhouse Tour”. That one also because I rocked the stage with all my brotha’s Silentz, Spooky, Lil Sicc & Intrekit and the crowd was just awesome, they always are.

Faygoluvers: This being Faygoluvers.net, what flavor Faygo is your favorite?

I’ve always loved the Blue Faygo Raspberry Blueberry! THATS MY SHIT! The Vanilla isn’t that bad either…(and Rock n Rye for chasers)

Faygoluvers: Other than yourself or anybody off Talk Sick Productions, who is your favorite artist(s) to listen to?

Snypa: Now everybody probably expects me to throw Twiztid & ICP and all them up there first, and I do love my Psychopathic Family to the fullest, but I have always been into and grew up on good old hip hop like Ice Cube, Ice-T, Bone and 2pac. I also like Crucial Conflict, Lil Wyte and more of that sort. But don’t get me wrong, I Love my Tech N9ne, Blaze, ICP & Twiztid, and most of Psychopathic.

Faygoluvers: Who do you consider are your influences?

Snypa: One of my first set of influences I’d have to say would be Eazy E & 2pac (honestly), everything about those dudes was the shit. Wasn’t no frontin or lying, just always being the gangsta’s that they was and always speaking everything that was on their minds at all times. They didn’t just say what everyone “wanted” them to say. Another big influence would have to be Monoxide, rather it be the crazy ass flows or just the representaton happiness, smoke bud, make music, mad love, just another cool ass ninja whoop whoop.

Faygoluvers: On your last album you had Mad Insanity Records very own Mars. Any word of him being on your next album?

Snypa: A few people have asked me that question. I wasn’t going to put that information out yet, but hey..its Faygoluvers. There HAS BEEN talk about it already, and I would love to have my boy Mars on it. He’s a cool dude and a great business man. I would definitely expect to see him on there.

Faygoluvers: Which artist(s) would you like to work with in the future?

Snypa: There’s a few artists I would like to work with in the near future. A couple of them are already in the works. I would like to do some more work with Hopsin & SwizZz from Funk Volume, I am also interested in Liquid Assassin, my boys from Wickid Wisco Dark Half, The DRP, Anybody Killa and a few more. I am also hoping to get some work done with Lil Wyte & Jellyroll.

Faygoluvers: When and where is your next show?

Snypa: My next scheduled show is on Nov. 24th at The Rave in Milwaukee,WI with Hopsin,Chucky Styles from Suburban Noize, The DRP and more. Come check it out if your in the area, gonna be a bomb ass show!

Faygoluvers: What’s your favorite thing about juggalos?

Snypa: Well I love my juggalo fam..NOT the assholes who throw shit at shows and ruin it for everybody, but other than them…my favorite thing about REAL juggalos is and has to be all the love and respect for each other. It’s like everyones just trying to have a good time. There isn’t any other feeling in the world like when your with all your fam and everybodys got huge smiles on their faces and bumpin some tunes..its priceless.
