Cyco of Insane Poetry – 3/20/08

Faygoluvers: Who is Insane Poetry? Where are you from, when did you start, why did you start?

Cyco: Insane Poetry consisted originally of Cyco, Dj Streek and Emdee ..now I carry on the torch, I am originally from the California..killa cali..lol. I started rappin’ cuz i loved the music from the gate, during the Wild Style days. My man Streek still dj’s and produces and Emdee is buildin Race Cars, and started a new company called Divine Motor Sports..We all still talk and mad cool with each other

Faygoluvers: Where do you see horrorcore/wicked shit in today’s music scene, and do you consider yourself to be horrorcore?

Cyco: First of all i’m asked that question quite alot. I am Insane Poetry and can’t be defined by ANY genre. It wasn’t called ” horrorcore ” when i dropped my first cd in 92, I called it Revelation Music, mirror to america, Grim Reality, that was what i called it then. Esham called it Acid Rap, Lynch called it Siccmade, Russell Simmons named it ” Horrorcore in 94 or 95. I see the genre needing some marketing help. People outside that genre thinks its all gimmicks and one dimensional. Personally for me you have your good and your bad horrorcore out there, but that is with all genres. Its just not enough of the good is heard. I like the King of Horrorcore King Gordy, nobody does it like him, NOBODY ..to me that is horrorcore! ..I like Scum and Sictanick also

Faygoluvers: You were invited to play the Gathering this year, how was the entire trip and outcome? Would you return if invited back?

Cyco: I have very mixed feelings about the Gathering, I feel like it was one of the craziest experiences i have ever had, juggalos EVERYWHERE great times! But when you KNOW you helped start a genre and you’re placed on the stage where nobody shows up to @ 4:20 in the afternoon when its 100 plus degress including the humidity and you’ve driven 35 hours to get there and realize 7000 people are only gonna watch the main show acts was a little fucked up. I realized that i gotta lot of work to put in still to get that Main stage where you know you’re gonna kill it and get more people exposed and knowledged on a legend in the game and that is STILL killin the game. I would return only if i had the Main stage, I feel i deserve it

Faygoluvers: If no one has heard of your music before now, how would they check you out?

Cyco: You could go to www.myspace.com/insanepoetry or go to www.neversodeeprecords.com or google search the Insane Poetry name, I’m everywhere on there, wikipedia..etc. I got music on Itunes, on sale at Ebay, in physical stores and online stores

Faygoluvers: You just released Fallen From Grace, why a new cd so soon?

Cyco: I was approached by Sutter Kain aka Dj Bless who i had been watching his movement grow outta control and be it that i wrote 4 songs on the Vanilla Ice cd ” Hard to Swallow ” which was a mesh of hip hop and rap produced by Ross Robinson. I loved how it came out and since i was into metal music any way it was easy to write those songs. My problem was i havent ran into anybody who produced it the way i would like to hear it with rap until i heard Sutter Kains music. I was like ” Oh shit ” i will murder his tracks. He reached out to me and we must have been on the same wave length. He didnt even know i would like that music and he picked me, so i feel it was destined to go down, the chemistry was there already. People don’t even know dude at all and he personally doesn’t give a fuck anyway, at the end of the day, the music has gotta be banging and that’s what he brings to the table. I needed to touch a whole other fanbase.

Faygoluvers: Fans of Vanilla Ice’s Bi-Polar CD might recognize a track that you have on your CD Faith In Chaos. Can you elaborate on this story?

Cyco: The story is simple, I wrote this song called OKS and Dj Streek produced it. I flew to Dallas to write a few songs for Vanilla Ice and i played OKS the instrumental to him and spit the lyrics for it. He said, I gotta have that song on his new cd, I was like cool but i gotta be on the song with you, so the verse you here him do was originally my first verse on the song

Faygoluvers: Would you like to collab with him in the future again ?

Cyco: Personally for the right price i would collab with him again but i think we’re on 2 different paths and we may not ever do anything again. It is what it is

Faygoluvers: Why do you think people haven’t given you the props you feel you deserve?

Cyco: Basically i believe people want to catagorize me as horrorcore and not look at it like dude is a talented muhfucka and hasn’t been marketed or promoted correctly. I don’t worry about it because i’ve given quality music to my fans

Faygoluvers: What do you think of all the discussion about “Who started the whole horror style movement” in Hip Hop?

Cyco: I don’t give a fuck about that…lets be straight..I STARTED THAT GENRE along with Esham, Gangsta Nip, X-raided and Brotha Lynch, we all busted a wicked nut in the industry’s vaginal passage and created this shit.

Faygoluvers: Tell us how you got started with Hip Hop. When did you write your first lines and what influenced you to do it?

Cyco: I was living in Chattanooga, TN and heard the Sugar Hill Gang and i memorized that shit, that was the muhfuckin shit back then. I did research and found out that niggas from New York started this shit and learned about Breakdancing, Djing, Graffiti Art and MC’ing, it was in my soul, like my religion bruh, I really don’t remember the first lines i ever spoke but I was hooked when i first heard it

Faygoluvers: So what do you think about the whole music industry, the radio?

Cyco: I think its changed drastically within the last 5 years. You could sale from 1-5 million copies easy becuz the industry could control the environment and the buyers market, but when napster came in and the mp3 craze happened, it allowed people a chance to listen to cds first before buying them. It has always been Corporate shit to fuck up the game cuz they were signing ANYBODY trying to recapture the last hit and music started getting mindless and eventually got wack period. Not to say there isnt good mainstream music out there but we ALL know most of it is pure garbage. Radio to me is the haven for the ringtone rappers becuz everything is now digital and fucked it, if they can do it, i’m gonna do it but my shit will be phenomenal, not popcorn.

Faygoluvers: What inspires you to write your lyrics? What are your intentions when you start writing rhymes?

Cyco: Life inspires me to write, I write shit that mentally fucks with you…i paint dark imagery with my lyrics but they aren’t things you couldnt relate to. My intentions are to take the listener on a journey thru what makes a person tick or what makes a positive into a negative. They call me the Black Edgar Allan Poe of music

Faygoluvers: When you look at rap like it was 15 years ago and what it is now, what do you think has changed?

Cyco: Everything, hip hop wasn’t about finances it was about expression and feeling and emotion. It had a passion then, now its about the money and shit, I ain’t mad at it becuz that is the dynamic of growth and expansion, you have ur good and bad shit out there period

Faygoluvers: You represent a whole new sound now with metal music, Why the change in style and why do you call it Ghetto Metal?

Cyco: Actually as i stated earlier is that i have always been into metal music, remember when Nirvana dropped Teen Spirit and Guns and Roses dropped Appetite for Destruction and Paradise City…those where the shit, pure aggression, I love that shit so it was natural for me to WANT to change my style and re-invent myself again with Ghetto Metal, it is the purest most angriest music that i’ve had the pleasure to be a part of and having the ” King of Ghetto Metal ” Sutter Kain aka Dj Bless produciing my whole cd. How could i go wrong..Ghetto Metal is the new era ..we want to metal kids who USED to like REAL rap music

Faygoluvers: How is it having Sutter Kain and Never So Deep Records marketing and promoting your new cd?

Cyco: Man it has been the shit, they BELIEVE in the shit wholehardidly, Sutter Kain came in and dominated this shit and hasnt looked back at all. There staff over there is A-1, I understood that i would have haters that don’t even know me say negative things about the union but fuck’em, i love the shit, HATTERS PLEASE do your job. At the end of the day all i care about is providing my fans with the most banging, grimey ass underground music they have ever heard and so far we haven’t disappointed any of them

Faygoluvers: What do you think is more important for rap: the entertainment factor or the content?

Cyco: Personally both have to be in place. The content means sooo much to me cuz i want you to feel like you can play my shit 7 years from now and still feel the same way you felt when you first heard it. I want to give you a full course meal instead of taco bell order. The entertainment factor comes when i perform it on stage..that is when the character comes out and the persona and swag jump out

Faygoluvers: What are the names of all of your releases to date? and tell us a little about each one.

Cyco: ” Grim Reality ” a brief description would be: classic rap documentary that has never been duplicated since. Ahead of its time. ” Blacc Plague ” was more of the street shit mixed with my skill and it had my homie Pope all on it. That cd symbolized a time in my life when i was in the streets tough with my dudes. ” Faith In Chaos ” that cd was based on dark America like Grim Reality but wiith new imagery and different production by Jp and Dj Streek. It felt great doing that cd. My last cd ” Fallen From Grace ” was a personal cd i had to get out to my fans and let them delve into my life and what i had went thru creating these cds in the unstable environment i was living in and it also showed other rappers and mc’s that i gotten even more dangerous lyrically and could not only kill the mic but craft some dope songs period

Faygoluvers: What about the new Insane Poetry album? What can we expect from it?

Cyco: The new cd will be called ” Dead Sea Scrolls ” it will be the most craziest shit i’ve done in my entire career. It will be fully Ghetto Metal but will be soo fuckin crazy kid, I have really dug into the mindstate of a Fallen Angel that had sex with the daughters of men and created this phenomenon ” Dead Sea Scrolls ” we’re gonna kill everything, REAL TALK

Faygoluvers: Who do you respect the most in the rap game. Any rappers out there you’d like to collab with?

Cyco: I respect alot of rappers out there getting that gwop and are actually creative as fuck, I can say Kool G Rap to Tech 9 to Crooked I to myself ..I am bumpin in my deck right now: Ghostface, my homies from the IK (Industry Killas) my nigga Tyrant and that whole movement, westcoast my nigga..the Don Mega Ice Cube, man there are alot but i will collab with ANYBODY SERIOUS meaning DONT ask for a free collab at all. Understand I am a muhfucking comodity and a legend by all rights in this shit.

Faygoluvers: To close the interview, is there anything you wanna say to your fans?

Cyco: Thank you for all the love and support, most definately purchase all of my catalogue cds and buy the new cd ” Dead Sea Scrolls ” ..hit me up for purchasing and licencing. To all my new fans and soon to be, you will not be disappointed…This is Ghetto Metal, the most aggressive rap music on the planet and I am the Nephilim that spews it the best!!!

Peace, Cyco
