Can we just talk a minute about the section of the most recent Herald concerning/addressing/responding to Blahzay Rose statements.

Here's the excerpt I mean (pretty much the whole first paragraph of the damn thing):

"There was a lot riding on this show because it marked the very first time our new Hatchet artist BLAHZAY ROZE performed live in front of a Juggalo crowd. According to Violent J, the crowd fucking LOVED HER and gave her a loud and sincere “Family! Family!” chant as she finished her set. Juggalos, let me tell you something: SHE HAS EARNED THAT PRAISE! This young woman—who has been through more shit in her life than almost anyone I know—is THE REAL DEAL! Her brand of wicked shit is more psychological than what Psychopathic normally puts out, but that’s EXACTLY what gives Blahzay her uniqueness. She is rapping about shit that FEW OTHER WOMEN PERFORMERS DARE TO RAP ABOUT! Everything from date rape, to abusive relationships, to living with clinical depression. So to all you trolls who accused her of being “emo,” go fuck yourselves…because unlike a lot of those whiny ass emo bands who are playing on instruments that were purchased for them by their rich mommies and daddies…Blahzay is speaking directly from her heart. If it’s too much or too disturbing for you to listen to, then—as Guns N’ Roses once wrote on their advisory sticker for their “Use Your Illusion” albums—“You can fuck off and buy something from the New Age section!” To all of you who showed Blahzay love last night, thank you."

This really kinda grinded-ed my gears a bit as there's a WHOLE LOT of passive-aggression goin' on in that shit and I don't really appreciate what it implies.

Probably best to cut it up line by line...

[OCJ_Brendan Spoiler Cut]

Juggalos, let me tell you something: SHE HAS EARNED THAT PRAISE!

HOW?! What fuckin' grind was this chick on to get her music heard? Where's HER "Behind The Paint" story with the handing out of flyers and playing empty rooms and fighting with club owners over getting paid, etc? I'm sure Blahzay did her thing and let Violent J mold her into a stage act but this "pushing up" of phrases like EARNED (in all caps no less) places the value of that word at odds with the OTHER WOMEN who HAVE been on a grind for years handing out flyers and playing empty rooms and fighting with clubs to let a female rapper up on stage in the first place! When it comes to Blahzay Rose, I'd be a little less loose with asserting the definition of her having "EARNED" her current place to preemptively address the value the Juggalo World places on it.

The way "EARNED" is being thrown around, sounds a whole hell of a lot like when someone says a pretty person "DESERVES" something. Cuz we all know pretty people "deserve" all KINDS of things! "Yer pretty! You DESERVE a better house!" "Yer pretty! You DESERVE to work less for more money!" "Yer pretty! You DESERVE better everything!" cuz no one likes to see pretty people not looking their best, m'Iright?

This young woman—who has been through more shit in her life than almost anyone I know—is THE REAL DEAL! Her brand of wicked shit is more psychological than what Psychopathic normally puts out, but that’s EXACTLY what gives Blahzay her uniqueness.

#FirstWorldProblems

Oh...kay... I'd say what gives Blahzay her "uniqueness" is just the fact that she is the first female artist signed to Psychopathic so... yeah... I guess pretty much ANYthing she does could be considered "unique".

Her BRAND of wicked shit? You mean the one that was given to her? Helping shape an on-stage presence is one thing, inferring that any of this was HER IDEA is another. Based on Violent J's Herald story, this person did not seem like her whole career goal was to become a big time female rapper (or did I read words wrong or something)?

She is rapping about shit that FEW OTHER WOMEN PERFORMERS DARE TO RAP ABOUT! Everything from date rape, to abusive relationships, to living with clinical depression.

...aaaaaannndd.... what?

See? Here comes that word "deserve" again.

So I guess if there was some female rapper out there spittin' rhymes about rebuilding the engine block of a '57 Chevy...? heh nm

Maybe one of the reasons "few other women dare" rap about shit like BEING RAPED and their collection of prescriptions MIGHT BE because it doesn't make for good subject matter that MOST people wanna hear. Those things that happened to her ARE terrible and traumatic and if writing out pages of "rape poetry" provides her with the catharsis she needs to help put those events PAST HER, than that is a great thing... but who wants to listen to that? I am SURE there are people out there than may also benefit from hearing those words but WHO WANTS TO LISTEN TO IT?

Please, PLEASE paint me a picture of the social situation in which a person would say to the group, "Hey! Ya know what would really put me in a party/road trip/pumped up good mood?! Listening to this girl talk about BEING RAPED and BEATEN by men in her life! YEAH! Put that shit on, yo!"....!!! Maybe use it as background music for a women's self-defense class?

And there's kind of a part of me that wants to respond to the above quote with a, "aaaannnd.... what? She deserves a big gold star for it?". NOBODY should have those things done to them and playing the game of "Dueling Maladies" against Juggalos will only unearth a fuckin' MOUNTAIN of hurt and heartaches that can't help but cast a shadow over any attempt to juxtapose Blahzay Rose's experiences OVER everyone else's.

It doesn't mean we should all be getting record contracts so we can all "talk it out".

So to all you trolls who accused her of being “emo,” go fuck yourselves…because unlike a lot of those whiny ass emo bands who are playing on instruments that were purchased for them by their rich mommies and daddies…

Yeeaahh... WTH was that? Don't think anyone had any specific "emo band" in mind. I mean, if you wanna make a Coal Chamber joke, go ahead; but I don't think people's assessment of Blahzay being or sounding "emo" had anything to do other bands and their... dislike of her. And the mention of the purchase of instruments out of nowhere just seems weird.

Blahzay is speaking directly from her heart.

Again... I guess she deserves another one of those gold stars.

Anne fuckin' Frank was "speaking from her heart" too but I *STILL wouldn't be jamming out on any music she made about all of the atrocities that were done to HER either! Presumably, ALL MUSICIANS are "speaking from their hearts". I don't think it a problem for them.

If it’s too much or too disturbing for you to listen to, then—as Guns N’ Roses once wrote on their advisory sticker for their “Use Your Illusion” albums—“You can fuck off and buy something from the New Age section!”

There it is, folks. Psychopathic now has it's very own "Sony/Ghostbusters Debate".

While none of us can, should or could expect a record company to bad mouth one of their artists (especially one of such special significance), this is the beginning of the shitstorm to follow.

Rather than filtering through the expected blowback from the usual assholes and trying to pick up on what the audience has been HEARING, it seems like they're just gonna tell everyone to go fuck themselves. Valid, lucid points be damned. "If you don't like it dot dot dot go fuck yourself".

This is the second or third time Psychopathic has (kinda) "accused" us of thinking Blahzay Rose is "too much" or "too disturbing" as if the whole of clown-kind doesn't watch slasher and horror movies of people being tortured and chopped in half as a past time. IF people's responses thus far have only yielded the impression of being "too disturbing", please allow me to FURTHER translate for anyone that might need it: IT'S NOT FUN! I have no intention of screaming out the lyrics to RAPE POETRY!

Personally, I enjoy listening to music in OTHER places than curled up in a fetal position with headphones on in the back of a walk-in closest!

And J-Webb... I know you are a fount of musical history knowledge, but that there is called a false equivalency. Guns n' Roses was speaking in reference to an act of government censorship of their music... WE are all talking about... well, if you don't know by now.

[rant out]

Just for transparency, here's what I had to say about Blahzay Rose's album specifically in a previous thread about it:

I think j webs point is people need to sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up if you don't like her. Nobody cares that you got a fetish for crying about how the whole world is wrong. It's exhausting.

And I don't mean you personally but anybody whining about her getting a shot.

J said her persona is one they helped pull out of her the same way twiztids was pulled out of them, or blaze, or whoever.

Blah blah blah she hasn't earned it. What the fuck ever. Nobody fucking earns shit. She got a shot and she took it and it doesn't impact anybody else. Her success, if she sees any, will be through her hard work same as anybody.

Where is hoodoos behind the paint? Lex? Fucking abk? None of them were doing big shit. They caught a break. So did she. Get the fuck over it.

If her music doesn't resonate with you then don't fucking listen to it. Move the fuck on. People who hate her are as bad as smack was with twiztid.

Why would he disparage people who play instruments? Anyone who plays an instrument is an entitled rich kid and somehow because BR can't play that makes her more authentic? Nigga please! That's the real whiny shit right there. Hopefully they get the picture they can"t guilt people into liking crap.

ive got an exceedingly shaky grasp on what 'emo' is sposed to mean to begin with [cuz i dont give a shit enough to investigate]...

... but it seems to me that 'speaking from the heart' is a very reasonable definition, right there.

i do know that every time i see someone laughin at the 'emo', when i look, what i see is a weirdo.

since juggalos are almost all weirdos, i dont really get why we are sposed to be laughin at 'emos'.

  awfully paranoid, arent you?

I always thought the type of person that would listen to Blahzay would be the same person that listens to songs about fucking corpses or being forgotten in prison after killing your girlfriend's rapist or, you know, ICP shit.

I think saying she didn't earn it is almost as stupid as J saying that Emo bands didn't earn shit. Don't know what they have been through. Really don't give a shit.

Emo is a sub-genre of Punk that stands for Emotive Hardcore. It has bands like Fall Out Boy, Paramore and My Chemical Romance. It sounds a lot like pop punk, like Blink 182 or Good Charlotte.

When most people say Emo they claim it means over emotional, it's just an over used term people apply to anything that is dark or sad in any way. Like tons and tons of people call juggalos emo clowns. Or a lot of goth acts get labeled Emo. Just another bit of slang that gets used by uncultured people kind of like Hipster.

thus, the shaky grasp.

kids oughtta put a hashtag in front of it.  be clearer that its low rhetoric.

im guessin those bands dont 'speak from the heart', eh?

out of all of em, i know my chemical romance from their cover of desolation row, which i wouldnt say is anything over-emotional or soft or sad.  they had another song that i remember thinkin was decent, but dont recall the name of it, offhand.

rest of em, i couldnt name you one song from.  probably heard em, but aint my shit, so whateva.

Who's to say who doesn't 'speak from the heart'.

A lot of those bands are really poppy, I don't know to many of the less poppy or original emo bands.

I know of Antioch Arrow which is emo, just haven't heard nearly as much from them as I have of the emopop bands.

Is this emo? None of my homies ever go see them with me and say they are lame emo. I fuckin love them and think they should be a gotj opener. Better than one eyed doll. Is one eyed doll emo? Or goth? Or wait. Who gives a fuck? Why do we have to label every one. How about talent or no talent. Kinda narrows it down. Nyd=talent. Blahzay may not be our niche, but she has talent. More talent than most of us that's why she is there and we are here.

That's a little more alternative rock. But yeah, it does have hints of Emo in it.

The labels are important in defining the style or sound so it's easier to describe. Like, even though this has hints of the emo or metalcore bands I'd compare it more to Evanescence which is another alternative rock band.

Dude for reals??!?

Blahzay to me has nothing to do with this dead language.

Its like saying this shit just cuz is the same as listening to robert smith or Elliott smith or fucken Morrissey just cuz it has "sad" lyrics.

Im pretty fucken sure she is saing shit like "hate me " ironically lol. You know "go ahead talk shit about me i dont care". Wich in turn is empowering and not fucken wallow in my sorrow shit. Although i do think alot of "sad" music is self-absorbed i tbink it has to exist. Like these people want to fucken kill themselves are thier fucken lifes are fuxken consumed by this disease that makes its kinda fucken hard to think of anything else...just saying.

All those bands would have just givin thieir left nut and sucked his to be him for a day.

For the record i like alm the bands mentioned. I dont know blahzay or silverstien that much but tbey get a stamp if approval.

I used to beat up emo kids and go home and listen to the music. Think about how shitty they do thier make up is and. How i wish i could do it for them if they let me.

Not proud just a fact.

YOU KNOW THEY AINT NO SUCH THING AS LEFTOVER CRACK!!!- Leftover Crack

People hated Twiztid, Myzery, Blaze, ABK, Esham, Zug, Boondox, AMB, DJ Clay and Hoodoo when they first came out on Psychopathic. Just saying.

All of that just seems like Psychopathic doin what they always do. The only difference is it's happening to a girl and he chose to add in the word "troll" for added effect.

J talking about how much it sucks to him that people don't like who ever it is isn't anything new. Just because it involves a chick, someone J fucked, or that she talks about how the cute guy in school doesn't like her or whatever Hot Topic shit she's on, doesn't mean it's different for her.

People will always dislike the new artist, J -who oddly enough makes profit off of them-  will always rush to their defense, it only changes the minds of people who say things like "they're fam so I think it's dope", and so on and so on and so forth until that artist warms up to people or disappears into the land of forgotten mediocrity.

If you don't like her don't listen to her. Just like every other "J found a new friend" artist that has been signed over the years. Your wallet speaks volumes.

My friend told me that when Tila got rocks thrown at her it's because she flashed her tits and the juggalos were like "nooooo we want penis!". That may have something to do with why juggalos hate Blahzay.
