Anybody ever read the comics or watch the MTV cartoon?
Sam Kieth, the writer and artist behind the story is often described as "too weird for the mainstream and too mainstream for the indie kids" but his stories are kinda incredible.
The Maxx deals with sexual assault, parental abuse, suicide, depression, and sexuality so if any of that can trigger you be prepared.
The Maxx is a superhero who lives in two worlds, the real world and Pangaea (a place that looks sort of like australia and sort of like the beginning of time). He is self described a homeless guy who tries to do good but mostly screws up and breaks things. He protects The Jungle Queen in Pangaea, and is protected by Julie in the real world. There's a lot of convoluted symbolism and intricate story telling that I don't want to really spoil but basically this is a fantastic cartoon that analyzes codependency and trauma recovery.
The cartoon ends at episode 13 which I think roughly translates to issue 13 of the comic, which ran until like issue 30 or so.
One of the later issues is one of my favorite in the series, and it features Julie as a kid and she is watching Rebecca (a fantastic Alfred Hitchcock movie) and masturbating in the library. Like I said, the shit gets weird.
With all the super hero movies out, I wish they'd redo this. Anybody with me?

Saw it in the '90s and was impressed. It's dark in a Sin City sorta way. If a live action version is made I think Mickey Rourke would be an amazing lead. Here's the first episode for those interested:

Aubrey Plaza, just dye her hair blonde and itd be brilliant.

yeah man as a kid I was like WHAT KINDA DRUGS ARE YOU PEOPLE ON but as a late teen and early 20 something I went back and bought all the comics and was like THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER.
Now I end up being the guy that people vaguely mention something close to the maxx and I'm like OH OH OH OH OH OH OH YOU GOTTA REWATCH IT.

I like her but she's too petite and her humor would probably over power the role. You'd need like a modern young type of pam anderson chick from baywatch but I dunno who that would be. Since I'm all for racial diversity, I'd support Rosario Dawson.
Joanna Kulig would work too possibly even though she's not really got the body.
Oh, a friend I'm talking to on aim suggest Kate Upton. i don't know shit about her but per google she'd definitely at least look like julie.
