Finally going to see The Dark Tower tonight. Expectations are ground zero so I shouldn't be too disappointed.

On the flip side of the thinny, the IT remake is approaching as well.

I am excited for this as well.

Have you read the novel "IT"?

The new IT looks laughably bad. I guarantee after that film drops, it's going to be a box office success and a critical failure. GUARANTEED. Prepare for the "why the new IT failed" videos shortly after it's release. Quote me on that, talk shit and hate me for it, see the movie, then come back and tell me how right I was.

I watched Stephen King's 'CELL' movie last night with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.

I thought it was a bad ass flick even though the zombie gimmick is played out. That ending is fucking hardcore.

Also finished reading his huge novel 'UNDER THE DOME' recently. I couldn't put it down, it's one of his best.

The Dark Tower comic series

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Tower_(comics)

is so beautiful, I like it almost as much as The Sandman series. Hope the movie doesn't suck, but if it does the comics might talk u down.

You may enjoy the art of Michael Whelan, who did the first DT illustrations and many years later came back for the last couple:

I finally signed up for the free trial of Audible a couple weeks ago and have been listening to IT on audio book. I'm nearly halfway through it and am very much enjoying it. I'm about to be on a long trip over the weekend and will listen to a whole lot of it then. I will then go see the movie when it's out, I think it looks pretty cool. Somehow, I've never seen the original version.

It's also weird that I haven't read more Stephen King. The only other book of his I've read was The Long Walk, which I also really liked. Eventually I'll tackle the Dark Tower series.

Pet Sematary is his best work man. It has all I crave when it comes to scary shit. But mainly tha ending. I hate it when scary stories have "good" endings. Its one of the reasons I kinda don't like The Shining. Ive never read tha Dark Tower stuff but I know Flagg is in it so I dig it.lol Oh yeah and The Stand. The Stand is firkin awesome. And as for IT. Never cared for it. Tha book is lame as shit. And tha movie is pretty over rated.

And Cujo is awesome.

Thanks guys, definitely looking forward to diving into some more of this. Salem's Lot and Pet Sematary have both been on my radar aside from Dark Tower.

I wasn't excited for the "IT" remake until I heard King gave it his complete blessing. I went to see Annabelle the other night and they showed a sneak peak with intro from King. Looks fuckin tits.

Also just started reading the Dark Tower series. Grabbed the first book when I was stuck on a plane the other day. It's good stuff.

So far, the only real "quibble" I have with what I've seen is the 'Harlequin Clown" (ie not in reference to the Batman character we all love) facepaint..

BUT...

It would seem that they've cast a younger... cast... that is more in line with the ages of the characters of the book, which I think may make the "horror aspect" a bit deeper... There's a marked difference in how an audience may react to a pre-teen getting psychologically terrorized by an ephemeral spider-demon and a 4th grader.

The only REAL hurdle of any "update"/"correction" of this story... is Tim Curry's Pennywise.

Fuck the cast or the age of the kids or adherence to the original story...

If this version can't TOP and EXCEL beyond what Tim Curry did that we would even have in mind to CONSIDER making this movie to begin with... then it ain't shit!

I'm hopeful.

But it's all on that fuckin' clown.

If I ain't haunted by it... then it ain't shit.

Maybe KingCorp. is attempting to grab Generation Z with the It reboot. The new Pennywise actor

reminds me of a young James Spader

so I bet he can pull off wicked, reptilian high jinks.

In ways what I expected, in ways it was not. I didn't like that they made Ben the library researcher of the crew, that robbed Mike of lots of identity. I understood why they did that, but it was a slight annoyance.

Pros: followed the first half very well... the actors were superb. Eddie, Beverly and Richie (of course) stood out. That girl actress was very good. Her face and eyes were so expressive... it didn't shy away from most of the heavier material... great Easter eggs, like a Beetlejuice poster... good running time... Pennywise mostly succeeded, the actor I mean....

Cons: too many loud jump crescendo scares.. switching Ben with Mike in their character traits... i think some scenes tried to add TOO much humor...

Definitely worth repeated viewing. Can't wait for part 2.

I never ended up seeing The Dark Tower. Typically I don't let reviews get to me, but damn... once I read too many and learned about the bad points, I just gave up. I'll wait til DVD. Bummed about that a bit.

I've never read the book, and after hearing some shit about what transpires towards the end I don't really have any plans to, but yeah, even a filthy casual like me could see Mike got a little shafted in this movie.

I thought the balance between humor, horror, and character moments was done fairly deftly, and... I mean, I love Tim Curry, but my boy Skarsgard gave a hell of a performance, I thought, and brought some needed inhuman nuances. I hope Finn Wolfhard has a long and prosperous career.

I'm going to bring my little sister to go see it with her friends this weekend.

What they call "the kiddie gangbang" is not as graphic as the articles portray it. I read the book as a young teen, adolescent really. The part does not describe too much, it is more of a bridge between (loss of) innocence into the raw, harsh reality of adulthood.

I remember being confused by the scene, nothing more.

The scene earlier when the bullies are lighting farts, then Patrick jerks the main bully off suddenly before he has a bad reaction and hits him. It is more disturbing to me. The violent reaction and the other kid jerking him off without asking.

But it still isn't farfetched. We all have witnessed or heard reliable testimonies from people we know who have done things in either curiosity, malice, or misplaced aggression.

Read the book, the kiddie gangbang is over in like 2 pages if I recall. Or skip it.

To be fair its technically not a gangbang. She fucks each one individually.lol Tha most memorable part of an otherwise pretty mediocre book. But tha new movie looks fresh.

Yep. I think chubby Ben is the only one that made her "see the birds" too. He burns there, too.
