I wanted to pick up where the video game thread tapered off, on the topic of horror games. I'm a wicked shit junkie, to the point where horror dominates literally every form of media I consume. Games are no exception. I just copped the PS4 release of the Amnesia Collection after years of having it talked up by PC Bro coworkers who insist I'd like it. ...and I do. It's probably the first game I've played that does justice to the idea of an interactive Lovecraftian horror, to the point where I would have believed you if you told me it was an adaptation of one of H.P.'s works. Thing is, I run through horror games like cigarettes. The addiction is real. To give y'all a scope of how deep it goes, this is a list of the ones I ran through just in the past year or so:

The Evil Within, Neverending Nightmares, Emily Wants to Play, Five Nights at Freddy's 1, 2, 3, 4 and Sister Location, Limbo, Until Dawn, Resident Evil Revelations 2, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Trilogy, Nanashi no Game 1 and 2, The Walking Dead: Michonne, Siren: Blood Curse, Outlast, Claire, Layers of Fear, Lithium: Inmate 39, The Jusuo, Fran Bow, Corpse Party, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, Corpse Party: BloodDrive, and Resident Evil 7 fuck someone should call my mom...

And even as I'm mainlining these Amnesia games I've got my eye on the next shit. Agony looks dope. The Conjuring House looks 2spooky. Last Year needs to get a PS4 port because I need a serial killer sim in my life... and speaking of serial killer sims... The crowned jewel is coming. The syrup on top of my boycherry. The one that's got me wearing panties just so I can get them wet thinking about it. Friday the 13th: The Game. Holy fuck kids, I need this so bad to externalize my napoleon syndrome and absentee parental abandonment issues with some visceral simulated murder fantasies.

But enough sperging out. I wanna know what y'all are playing to get your spooky boogie on. What are you guys hype for? Any recommendations? ...just...just tie me off, man, damn!

Oh yeah, I 'member this. Used to have to go over my friend's house to play it. We were determined to beat it...we...uh, never did. Not sure anyone ever did. The Nightmare on Elm Street one was the superior game, but equally inbeatable.

As for Inside, how similar to Limbo is it? I've only seen glimpses of it, enough to arouse my curiousity, but not enough to grab me the way Limbo's unique art style did.

I've had full intentions of getting the new Resident Evil but Inside is making that difficult.

Friday the 13th: The Game looks incredible and I cannot wait. I wish it wasn't set up the way it is (at its core it's just a game of tag) but still...any Jason that looks that bad ass can't be wrong.

I'm guessing you've played P.T., correct? If not, get it if you can. Not sure if it's still on the PSN store but I'm sure there's some way to get a hold of it for PC if you look hard enough. It's obviously not a full game but what was offered was plenty for me to feel emasculated as fuck lol. Played it with my girlfriend beside me and she's still talkin shit about some of the high pitched noises that came out of my mouth when I played it. Like, they can't really even be called screams. They were just odd sounds that bothered dogs more than humans.

Nah, the PT thing really hurts my feelings because by the time I had caught wind of it all that shit had already gone down and it was off the PSN. Plus I don't own a PC. A Silent Hill collaboration between Hideo Kojima, Guillermo Del Toro and Junji Ito (who I'm an enormous mark for) and starring Norman Redus being announced and abruptly cancelled seems like a cruel joke the universe played specifically on guys like me. I know they got the new thing going with Mads Mikkelson but it's just not gonna be the same. But that's two for Inside so I'm putting it up on the list.

Fuck yeah. Believe it or not, I slept on Dead Space 'cause a homie had it so I just watched him play instead. I did recently crush the mobile version though. Those others are classics, I plan on revisiting Fatal Frame via emulation one day.

If you like Fatal Frame, try Nanashi no Game ("The Nameless Game"), it's a DS horror title that never came stateside, but english patches exist via emulation. It combines exploration with a haunted oldskool NES-era RPG and ties them together with a moody J-horror narrative. It's like if The Ring and those stale haunted gaming creepypastas had a baby.
