I got the awesome opportunity last night to meet with Grieves from Rhymesayers Entertainment after his performance in Buffalo, NY. For those who aren’t aware, Grieves is currently on the last leg of his tour with the band Pepper (you can hear their performance in the background of the interview), and although they’re keeping a tight schedule, he was happy to sit and talk with us. If any of you are unfamiliar with Grieves, be sure to peep the video below, as well as the music videos I linked to at the bottom.
For those who do not have video streaming capabilities at the moment, here’s a brief rundown on what Grieves and I discussed:
- How he got started into music and evolved into where he is today
- Being able to meet one of his idols (Slug of Atmosphere) and eventually coming to work with him
- He’s working on a new album with a new producer, should be done soon
- There’s another tour right around the corner after this one (mainly Canadian and Midwest dates)
- Some of his favorite artists from when he was younger (and still to this day) are Ill Bill, Necro and Non Phixoin
- He has mad love and respect for the Juggalos, and although he’s never had a personal experience with the culture, he definitely would like to attend the Gathering of the Juggalos and see how it resonates with him
- Music is art, it’s not made to create boundaries and segregation, it’s made for everyone to enjoy and break the barriers and open up on a new level
Here’s the interview as well as a gallery of live photos from his performance. And remember to scope out his music at the bottom if you haven’t already.
