Violent J is actually re-telling the story of The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that got that connection. I'm curious if J has ever read any of Edgar Allen Poe's works.

Haven't j and shaggy both stated that personally they aren't really into scary shit? I thought they said something like that in the youshoot kayfabe interview.

I know that, but I'm not talking about Legz. I'm talking about J. Maybe Legz read it to him and that's how they got the concept for the song?

no way he is functionally illiterate.

but i know plenty of guys his age or older, who bragged about never reading a single book since droppin outta school.

this includes major-brand certified mechanics, career soldiers, managers, truck drivers... all kinds of people who shouldnt have been able to get as far as they did, without cracking a book.

Like my pops, who never saw a day of college, owned his own electrical company and retired a couple years ago. His advice was "hire people smarter tha you". He meant smarter at the occupation, specifically. He had two core employees, sometimes three, spmetimes me or my brothers for big jobs. He was born into poverty with a murdering father, dealt drugs for many years, then just, figured something out. He never reads anything other than the newspaper. Or Time.

J is genius in ways like that.

i personally consider it a bad thing, but when that exception to the rule builds a proper life without being well-read, all you can say is more power.

for real, though, damn near everyone in america needs to start reading a fuckin book once in a while.  a real book, not some fantasy series, soft bio/autobio, or comic book.

particularly the 'classics', cuz you need to have that frame of reference;  meaning, knowing about what others have read.  and why.  and how it affects their thinking.  and why.

You could do that with other series like Harry Potter and Twilight and 50 shades of grey, too.

The Harvard Classics (Dr. Eliot's Five Foot Shelf) is a world literature anthology compiled by a Harvard president. He said that "the elements of a liberal education could be obtained by spending 15 minutes a day reading from a collection of books that could fit on a five-foot shelf." Now it can fit on a thumb drive, but it's still amazing; here's the link to the Project Gutenberg version of the anthology:

If you value reading, my advice is to never have children lol.. unless you are wealthy enough to afford a Booktime Nanny or some shit. First I could manage one full book a season, now I dont know when Im ever going to finish one again. Its all good though.

Reading is such a treat that I feel outrageously mentally healthier whilst reading. A whole new perspective after every page, sometimes. Kind of like what Immortal Technique said in a line of "You Never Know."

I had my heart set on being a writer. My own laziness is to blame. I am not a lazy person either, I just could never find the right way to balance reading and writing with life. My old rap name used to be Wastid Talent. The irony is that I also never recorded any raps lol.

Not a list of songs but J's line in DL 'I'm about to enroll in Columbine and finish the fuckin job
POP POP POP POP!!' is the worst I can think of, always felt uneasy about that line, it's so personal and real.
