They lost the anger from the 90s. From a subjective view the are actually much more talented now than they were when they started. They just lost the anger that many of us loved about them. They are much less ‘fuck the world’ and much more “hey, we’re cool too”. In the 90s J said fuck the awards and accolades and now J says they don’t take us seriously and it’s unfair. The sound on Found is exactly what they said they’d never do. Every time I put it on I laugh and say, “the wicked clowns will never die!”. I really could give a shit less though. It’s all about what they want. (unless they start losing all of their fans) I typically get my wicked fix else where anyways, I don’t need ICP.
One thing that is annoying is that they put their best shit on side projects and EPs instead of on the main albums.
Oh, and Violent J’s weird voice like he’s doing a bad imitation of somebody to insult them. The growling angry rock vocals sound a lot better to me. Or just the straight up rap vocals. But not the cartoon character voice.
I think a lot of the beats on Lost were really dope and experimental they just didn’t use them right. They didn’t experiment with delivery and lost a great opportunity to make something really really dope.

I can understand where DLF is coming from here. It ain’t that they changed the formula up, because it’s basically more or less the same. Dark storytelling tracks with some fun humor songs sprinkled in, with a closer that’s supposed to make you think a little bit.
For me it’s the performance and the lyrics mixed with a production that doesn’t really fit their style of rapping. I think lucem pretty much hit the nail on the head. Shit just ain’t as hard anymore. Nothing to do with old school vs new.
I’d also agree with lucems assessment that their best shit is somehow relegated to side discs and eps or lotus.

yep you pretty much nailed it. Alot of it has to do with juggalos just buying everything and eating it up and saying this is dope regardless what they put out.. they could literally shit on a cd and leave it blank and juggalos would still say its hard. To me it seemed like they’ve always tried even with BPB and MDP but fell short. They made a few good songs then the rest just sound like filler to me. You can’t throw 3-4 songs on a cd and say yea man we sound old school as fuck on this! It all comes down to the production. If I had the chance to go into the studio with J and lead him in any kind of direction, I would have strings, pianos, louder guitars, better drums and bass that actually sounded good. I hate that bass they use now, twiztid is doing it also. I would even prefer a live bass guitar, would make it different. There’s ways of making icp’s songs sound new with an old school twist to it people just aren’t seeing it. I don’t praise there work now because this isn’t what there capable of, production has been really lacking.
Look at what seven produced, I see the devil was fucking dope. and that had pianos, and J’s voice was great. Sounded just like something off hells pit. Found was even a great song, I really liked that. Where’s the days when Icp used weird sounds, synths, strings, pianos, bells, brass, etc etc etc. That’s what I want back. Even if it’s for ONE cd I would be happy. The entire cd!

You… don’t seem to have a very high opinion of juggalos. There are almost certainly a few juggalos who like literally everything ICPS has done, but I don’t believe they’re the majority. And no matter what it is, there’s always going to be someone who can appreciate it. They’re not wrong for liking the things you don’t. ‘

Could you be a bit more specific than just saying “old school”? It’s a little vague. I take it to mean anything from the first deck, but given that that covers a dozen years’ worth of material in two different decades, it doesn’t do much to narrow down what it is your really want from them. You want… more and different instruments? If I recall correctly it wasn’t too long ago that a common complaint was that they were using too much, too many layers. They needed to make their beats more simple, make it grittier. I’m not saying it was you who made that argument, but my point is that no matter what they do, they’re not going to please everyone.
Where’s the days when Icp used weird sounds, synths, strings, pianos, bells, brass, etc etc etc. That’s what I want back. Even if it’s for ONE cd I would be happy. The entire cd!
I kind of doubt that that’s all it would take to make you happy. Honestly… first thing I thought of when I read your list was The Mighty Death Pop. So go give that a listen.

This can be applied to just about anything. Music, movies, Wrestling, Video Games, etc. I think it’s very true. I think as a society we as consumers believe we need to know how everything works behind the curtain. And when we start bitching about how things didn’t play out the way we wanted them to, it starts to become less enjoyable.
Like @wes-sider said, just sit back and enjoy. If you’re not digging it anymore, then move on to something you do enjoy. If you really do think you can do better, then go do it better. But if you’re not trying, then you shouldn’t even really have anything negative to say. Either you’re enjoying it, or you’re not. And if you aren’t, then why are you still listening/investing in said product?

I wont get too deep into this, but I know exactly what your saying and agree 100%. Ill chalk it up to us thinking alike. And I’m sorry, but imo MDP was the worst ICP album I’ve ever heard in my life, right with Found. I know some will disagree but who cares. People will go back and fourth till their blue in the face on these topics. But its cool, we all have a certain luv for the Clowns, different strokes for different folks.

I have moved on though, I listen to different artists now. I still peep all the new releases and what not, but the shits wack anymore. And “go back and listen to mdp?” that shit sucked lol i hated 90% of the album.
It’s not that I don’t have a “high opinion” on juggalos. I don’t mind Juggalos. But i have seen alot of asshole juggalos out there and embarassing ones at that.
If anything I would be happy with them just taking a little bit of everything from the old cards and blending it all together somehow. How hard would that have been for the very first cd? If BPB was more like “in your face” I would have been really happy. The beat and lyrics were dope. That’s what the new Icp should have sounded like. That’s OLD school icp with a new twist.
I’m done with the topic though, no matter how much I bitch they will continue to release albums that are sub-par and filled with wicked all over the choruses or have shitty choruses period..

No, that’s exactly what I’m saying. You don’t like that album even though it has, to my knowledge, about everything you had listed for an album you would be happy with.
You clearly have an idea of what you want, but I don’t think you’re communicating it very well. You’ve given examples of what sound “old school” to you, but… that doesn’t mean much to me. I could make a completely different list of songs from the new deck that I find to have an “old school” vibe.
I don’t know what you mean by BPB not sounding enough like In Yo Face. I think a lot of the songs on there have a similar tone. What is it that that particular song has you like that the rest of the album lacks?
Honestly, though, I don’t want them to sound like they did in the 90’s. I suspect they’d have been gone a long while ago if they never changed their style, so I’m glad they evolved.

see, darklotusfaygo? they already gave you what youre askin for, and you hated it.
if that wasnt what youre askin for, you should take time to come up with a better way of spellin it out. cuz thats exactly what i thought when i read ‘weird sounds, synths, strings, pianos, bells, brass, etc etc etc’. death pop.
im not fuckin with you, dlf.
i actually do agree with a few of the points youve made, weve discussed em before. but in the final analysis, your lil thesis is just nuts. not your reaction to the music… its your expectations, youre apparent sense of entitlement.
in a sentence: you are not the only juggalo. giving you what you want can only be done at the expense of takin away from the rest. some of the rest, at the absolute least.
the sooner you recognize this, the easier your issues with icp will be to endure.
ultimately, this is why the only thing i have to say that is in accordance with the topic title is, ‘psy should not get any music ideas from their fans.’ theyve done a good job without it.
and sure, ive had many great thoughts about things psychopathic could/should/shouldnt do. a couple of yall know i got ideas that would make em a ton of money and go over like gangbusters.
but im not gonna just tell them to do shit my way, cuz it aint my business. and more to the point, it could fuck things up for other juggalos.

Believe it or not. I like the new Icp because of the Mixed blends of music they have to offer and i can find enough old school sounding shit on These New cars and eps. Tmml lost and found sounded exactly how I expected it. Lost like a New hells put and found Light Songs with wicked clown flavour sprinkled in.
And they somehow managed to Hit the nail on the hat Theme wise with These New cards and the Songs on em that it fits very well with my life Situations.

I believe u man. Most ninjas i talk to in person love the new shit. Some like lost over found or whatever but its kinda from what im seeing its like an internet thing.
Thats what it looks like to me at least. I dunno.
I like most of the songs from TMML era.
Except for like…… Two or three songs of each release. Out takes phantom and what not.
Some of the out takes fell really short for me. Like that hooker song. Joey the butcher. And i dont know i skip them i can feel why they were left out.

Idno maybe I am putting it out there wrong, like I said, it’s hard to explain. I don’t hate on anyones opinions that’s not what i’m here for, I just want them to truly, really try. Mdp didn’t have those weird sounds, some songs were sampled, and that chris benoit song came off so corny. All the songs I posted are sounds I really enjoyed. I found a dead body would have been amazing with some heavier guitar IMO. but that’s just me. As I stated, whatever you guys like, that’s cool, I have no problem with it.
Just to keep it simple, I feel like i’m left for more with the albums I guess. Maybe 10 years from now I can look back on them and truly appreciate them but who knows. I’m always curious as to what they’re going to do for the next card. I think these solo cds are going to be a new way for them to find a new sound, which I am hoping.

Most juggalos I know hardly even listen to ICP, actually.
Every single one of the juggalos I know did a double take of disappointment when I play stuff from Found. Found is something I play for a laugh until somebody begs me to turn it off.
So, personally, I know it’s not an internet thing.
Initially if an artist disappoints you, you’d move on (ignore Lil’ Wayne, Lil’ B, Nicki Minaj, etc.) but when the artist is marketing their music as the foundation for a way of life, that’s when in issue comes a long. See, ICP is the face of this culture. Their music is supposed to be the defining representation of this culture. If a juggalo doesn’t like what’s supposed to represent them, then it’s not so easy to just move on, now is it? This is the music you people choose as your identitiy. This is the shit that changed your life, saved you, and became a way of life. That fact has become the biggest selling point for this music. This is a business that is trying to sell you a culture, a family in the form of a cd. If you embrace those ideas and embrace the idea of being a juggalo and dedicate your identity to this, then it’s a lot more than just moving on from an artist. To me, I think it’s silly for a fan to feel entitled to anything. But for those of you who claim that juggalos are a family or a movement or a culture, there is a sense of entitlement that goes along with that.
Luckily, I’m not a juggalo so it’s easy for me to move on from shitty releases.

Yeah that true for a bunch of juggalos but not all. I just started listening to icp like 3 or 4 years ago. ICPs music is not my fucken identity neither is none of thr other bands im in love with. What changed my life was god. ICPs music was the only way i could even humor the thought. So i did and BAM! The music makes my mind run wild. So does like weed and u dont see me bowing down to bob.

I’ve been listening to em ever since I was 13-14 years old now, they’re a big part of me, and probably will be until I die. I think if J got off his meds he’d write some crazy shit. One very great example for me is wizard of the hood and the shining. The shining sucked man, I probably listened to that album like 2 times. They have lost ALOT of fans, wether anybody likes to admit that or not. They still had all those fans even after the tempest, but most left once the new deck hit. Now they are trying to capture whatever it is they’re trying to with Wicked/Seven. J said they are trying to focus on ICP more which I hope they do, I hope they take the time to construct a well, thought out, amazing album.
they need someone other than J giving the direction of the beats, where they should go, what would sound good. And personally that’s where Mike E fits into play, so if wicked/seven are going to be in the studio, I think MEC needs to be present.

I didn’t say anybody worships anybody, I just said that if you choose this culture, this music, this title as an identity. You choose to identify yourself as a juggalo which is defined by the music of the Insane Clown Posse. The Phish fans didn’t make it a way of life, Kiss Army didn’t make it a way of life, Beliebers didn’t make it a way of life. Juggalos are supposed to be a whole culuture and way of life and, as many say, a family. You’ve vocalized your dislike of me not being a juggalo. So to say this is not your identity, or isn’t a part of your identity is ridiculous. This music is a pivotal piece in the identity of anybody that calls them self a juggalo. Like it or not, if you dedicate your life to using this title and this group you are represented by the music of the Insane Clown Posse. So it’s understandable for a juggalo to get upset if he feels like the music doesn’t represent him properly in comparison to just an Insane Clown Posse fan not being fond of Insane Clown Posse music anymore. Me, personally, I never took this thing too seriously, but a lot of juggalos do take it very very seriously and probably much more serious than they should.
Let’s not pretend that anybody that calls them self a juggalo hasn’t chosen this as an identity when there is a whole image and style to this. Just like people choose the title ‘punk rocker’ or ‘goth kid’ or ’emo’ or ‘hipster’ or ‘police officer’ or what not to be their identity (or at the very least a strong piece of their identity) you have chosen ‘juggalo’. Why would you call yourself a juggalo if you didn’t want to be known as a juggalo?
