The Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Knee_Massacre
had more reported casualties (possibly 300) but is often not considered. I’m guessing U.S. soldiers killing Native American women & children then getting awarded Medals of Honor for it doesn’t test well in some markets.

The government and history books don’t want you to look at it that way though. Its unfortunate what happened at Wounded Knee, and its also unfortunate what happened in Orlando. Both hate crimes.

One thing that this brings home for me that I didn’t really have a strong opinion about before is, people really need to stop tossing around the word “faggot.” Yes, a lot of us grew up with the word and are used to it as a more general insult that isn’t intended to be anti-gay and I understand saying that gay people shouldn’t take offense for that reason. But for people who are gay, that’s a word you’re used to hearing from someone who’s being hostile and aggressive towards you, and anyone who’s openly gay has heard it used that way towards them plenty of times. And as long as gay people have to legitmately worry about someone who’s talking to them like that potentially killing them (and Orlando is by no means the only incident), it’s not their problem to get over it. It’s our problem to show some fucking respect and not use the word.
