We all know what it means and refers to, but where did it originate? In all honesty, I never knew the term “salty” even existed until like a month ago.
So where did “beef” come from? And while we’re at it, where the hell did the term “salty” come from?

Salty meaning “angry, irritated” may come from tough, aggressive sailors; beef meaning “complaint” may come from late 19th century soldiers complaining “about the quantity or quality of beef rations.”
