Wait no I'm wrong about the circumstances of ecco mono. The woman who did it really was trying to fix it. She was Spanish (from spain not latina) and saw that the painting was falling apart. I thought the original piece was from the renaissance but it was only from 1930 and apparently the church knew she was going to try to fix it.

I still think it's awesome though. And the original does nothing for me.

Minor point of correction, i love the fine arts when it's conceptual and tends toward honest or emotional, dislike it when it is aesthetic and idealized.

all of those factors are either subjective or circumstantial.  or both.

but i get what ya mean.

Yeah man. All taste is subjective and all art is circumstantial.

There's actually nothing inherently great about the Jesus painting you posted other than that were told its important.

subjective.

i agree with you, myself;  but there are millions who would declare it to be greatness and beyond just cuz its got jesus on it.  others will have other reasons.

And many artists don't actually do all of their own work. All four of the teenage mutant ninja renaissance artists, for example, used countless students to create their most memorable works.

circumstantial.

the work endures longer than the workaday.  this is [to me] especially true of art that is as old as the renaissance.

of course, anyone who did art 101 can see the game im playin, here.

well, 102, anyway.

  1. I'll make a deal with you though: i won't assume you're reacting the way you are because it's women if you acknowledge that they aren't physically destroying the originals and that it might actually be funny since you already said some of the actresses are funny and they wrote it.

[a bunch of stuff that kinda missed my point]

Wow. That's quite the disparagement there, pal.

I don't know why you wouldn't "believe" me about *this after having read my more than glowering comments in another thread regarding Harley Quinn and her depiction in "Suicide Squad"... but hey, far be it from ME to kill any argument you may wanna have with OTHERS by denying you *that foil with ME. Solider on, homie.

But let me extend an olive branch in agreeing that, yeah, they may be holding shit back as far as the story content goes... but even IF that ENTIRE element of "concern" were put to rest, it does not END the litany of things one (or MANY) could have to say about this movie (or others like it). I don't have to put a turd in my mouth to know it's gonna taste like shit.

If you really wanna slug it out on this, I'm MORE than happy to oblige but I'm sure it would not make for much entertainment for the others that may wanna chime in about other shit on the movie...

...but just as full disclosure; got one of them degrees in film and wrote a thesis called "The Temporal Mechanics of a Failed Plot Device" comparing "Back to the Future" and "Ghostbusters" 's narrative construction of worlds arguing against explaining the "science behind the fiction" preventing the audience from deconstructing or disbelieving a story and its elements [iow, saying that Ghostbusters did a better job presenting proton packs and ghost traps than BttF did with the Delorian and time travel... citing "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure"... it was a comedy performance]... so I can go OFF on some Ghostbusters shit... if you really need to...

Did you know there was a Ghostbusters Role Playing Game? There was even a 2nd Edition when the second movie came out. I own all of it. The basis of the entire game was hinged on a single line from Peter Venkeman in the first movie, after coming out of the bank Ray mortgaged his family home to; "The franchise rights alone will make us rich beyond our wildest dreams!". Players essentially bought their own franchise in their particular city. The DM/GM/Storyteller would modify the modules to include their own town. They would have to buy equipment from the company, repair it, pay for containment etc... My favorite story was called "Apoc-Kermis Now". "Kermis" is an old Nordic word for a party or festival and the players have to stop some Norse god/demon from forcing the entire world into generating the energy he needs to destroy it by partying itself into Oblivion!

The rulebooks even come with actual Ghostbusters contracts that are to be signed by each employee upon hire [that are funny as shit] and include indemnifying the company from any loss of sexual function or limbs as a result of their employment with Ghostbusters International, LLC...

fuck this movie.

I said up thread that vandalism of a piece of art could be hurtful if it's destructive but that doesn't mean i can't enjoy looking at it. The person who poked holes into my piece didn't turn it into new art they just damaged it. That said, i regularly destroy my own art with the intent to reuse pieces. And if whoever vandalized my piece had asked if they could destroy it for an art project i would have gladly given it up.

I would love it if you could take a book that's been made into a movie and do a couple thousand words on all the parts that weren't the same as the book, and all the characters you thought were miscast. That would be scintillating

did this in two separate film classes.  but no, im not gonna dig em out.

one was red october, cant remember the other one right now.

also did last of the mohicans, stand and deliver, romeo and juliet, and bunches of others throughout schools, just like everybody else.  but thats not quite the same shit.  much shorter, much less thoughtful.

really, its too easy.  the vast majority of book versions are better and more complete than the movie versions.  nature of the two media.

While I absolutely love the original, I had tried to give this reboot or whatever they are calling it, a fair shot, but NOPE!  Not anymore and its not because its an all female cast, etc.  Once I saw the cast in their Ghostbuster suits, they look so frumpy in them, like they do not fit and are a bit too big and I know this may seem weird to some, but that was the reason why I gave up any glimmer of hope on this movie.  If they cannot even get the look of the suits correct, the way they look on the actors/actresses etc, then Ill pass and not feel sad about it at all

So basically in this new Ghostbusters movie, they've taken Sex and the City and gave it a Ghostbusters twist. Also, I didn't realize an exorcism could be performed by simply bitch slapping said possessed person. Ugh.

I wasn't as mad about the cast as I was about them trying to put a new spin on my childhood all together. Hopefully this is just a cash grab because they will never compare to the originals.

even Ernie Hudson thinks this movie is a bad idea, Bill Murray loves the idea but he's like the main reason there was never a ghostbusters 3 to begin with he always refused to do it.

Always seems odd to me when Bill Murray says he doesn't do sequels...but he did Ghostbusters twice. He did Garfield twice. It appear there is another more obscure reason why he wouldn't do Ghostbusters 3.

A Bill Murray interview says:

"The most famous version of a rumored third Ghostbusters had Bill Murray participating as a ghost. Peter Venkman would be dead, but still haunting the remaining three Ghostbusters: played by Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and the late Harold Ramis. "It was kind of funny, but not well executed," Murray recalls about that premise. As for a later draft that Aykroyd had penned and presented to his former co-star, Murray admitted to Variety that it was "crazy bizarre and too crazy to comprehend." This might be the one that had the Ghostbusters traveling to an alternate dimension, where they fight demons in a hellish version of Manhattan dubbed "Manhellton." Aykroyd wrote the treatment for Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent with Tom Davis, but nothing ever came of it."

Like I said, the game for the PS3 is the ONLY real chance we will have ever had for any kind of spiritual successor (see what I did there derp) to anything like a sequel. It is SO amazingly respectful and LOVING of the material... it deserves more credit than to have had its multiplayer servers shut down, cuz that shit was SOOO fun!

Responding to the Bill Murray thing... do you have ANY idea how fuckin' HARD it was to convince Bill to do the game? It took YEARS and a LOT of money but when he signed on, they ALL fuckin' committed to the voice acting! And he's joked many times about how much money they shoveled his way for that Garfield shit. When asked, he's embarrassed by it.

I REALLY REALLY recommend everyone play the game!!! But if you don't have the means by whatever measure:

https://youtu.be/oquVFNA37to

[of course it all makes WAY more sense when you play the thing but if you can't, at least you can get the gist of what it's about]
