As expected, nothing good can ever be celebrated in the modern era where very asshole has a "voice", as evidenced by people shitting on this movie in hour long videos and long long long threads on reddit from the moment it was announced, but I fucking LOVED this movie. I thought it was incredible, the story is amazing and super satisfying and it's now tied with the original for my favorite.
Anyone else see it? What's y'alls feelings?
edit: whoops, feel free to move this to the proper subforum if necessary.

Trans propaganda. I'm cool with it if someone wants to cut off their dick and be a woman but I don't want it drilled into me for 3 hours. If I'd have known how deep the trans shit was in this film, I wouldn't have watched it.
No problem with trans people, doesn't affect my life at all but the message isn't what I'm into, in my sci-fi action films.
Big fan of the originals but this one wasnt it for me.

To be fair, the originals were supposed to be metaphor for trans....
quick google search and random article.... https://www.vox.com/culture/2019/3/30/18286436/the-matrix-wachowskis-trans-experience-redpill

Yeah I know the originals were supposed to be a trans allegory but it wasn't in your face. It was clever and you could still watch all 3 without constantly having it rammed down your throat.
I even watched the originals in advance, like a month ago, fully knowing what they were all about (the character "Switch" was originally supposed to be a woman in the real world and a man in the matrix which is a pretty cool idea) and it didn't have any effect on how much I enjoyed them. This one drops all the subtlety though.

Allegory is what I meant, not metaphor. End of a 12 hour shift will do things to your brain...
Ok, just making sure you knew. Haven't seen the new one, as we decided to see spider-man twice instead I am not getting those vibes from the trailers, but this worries me. My cousin saw it and said it was garbage, but we totally disagree on tons of movies... I guess I'll wait until its streaming on HBO Max before I try to watch it then..... that sucks, I remember the feeling of awe as a kid watching the first one in theaters and was hoping to get that again..... probably going to irritate me more than anything....

Priceless memories from going to see the second and third Matrix flicks. Excited to see the next one.
Unfortunately, in this part of Vermont, the closest movie theater has been shut down since around the time the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released. The articles say that there are no plans for it to reopen. And the closest theaters are all near an hour away.
I really wanted to see Ghostbusters and Spider-Man: No Way Home, but no time and it's quite pricey to drive all that way. We will try and take the kids to see Sing 2 this Sunday.
It's a shame, I love the movies. Used to go every Friday or Saturday as a kid. There is still an outstanding drive-in in upstate NY that we visited last year.

Not sure of your streaming capabilities. Amazon Prime and HBO Max and the like also releases some movies in conjunction with the theatrical release.
I think the new Matrix is HBO Max -> https://www.hbomax.com/the-matrix-resurrections-a?utm_id=sa%7c71700000086087355%7c58700007376884405%7cp66064587477&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_JWOBhDRARIsANymNOa62exVGOKVawwus0lA7fTiwcrS4MVQMbnt2AflH4AiNyo4USWQzlcaAnqmEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Just have to find which streaming service carries whatever movie you are wanting.
I have just recently started the Amazon Prime thing. I think it's a little over $12 a month. You still have to "rent" the new release movies on top of that but the Amazon Prime membership has the additional benefits of free shipping for items, etc. It's pretty good. They don't carry the new Matrix though.
[edit]
Ok. Looked into the HBO Max thing a bit. Looks like the new Matrix is available at no additional cost if you get their AdFree Service which is right at $15 a month but it includes all Warner Bros. theatrical releases (which the new Matrix is).

All good bro. Wasn't trying to "out intelligence" you or anything. You probably did the right thing by watching Spiderman. I don't fuck with marvel shit but I'd rather watch every single marvel movie than watch this shit again.
Others might be able to block out the trans message but it was so on the nose it made me sick.
The whole thing is "you might look this way on the outside but you're whatever you feel on the inside". And the end... I won't spoil it for anyone but they can fuck off with that shit.

I mean, I was excited about it because I'm a genderfag so I watched it as soon as it dropped, fully expecting it to have a much more significant focus on gender identity, and I obviously loved it, so our experiences couldn't be any different, so before I even respond, I'm obviously biased in a way that's completely opposite your bias, obviously.
That being said, I feel like it's like watching Roots and being mad that racism was shoved in your face.. Why would you watch a 2021 reboot of a movie from the 90s with a heavy focus on gender dysphoria and transition if you don't like trans shit in your face? I get the idea of the first three (+ Animatrix) being digestible without considering or at least without focusing on that reading of it, but, as much as I don't agree that it was 'in your face/down your throat' myself, wouldn't you have to assume that a movie from a trans bitch walking around in a cybergoth costume every day, that's a reboot of a series you know to have a trans focus, released in the era of 69 gender options, would have an unavoidably clear trans focus?
Now, grant that I'm stoned and I was mostly blissfully glazed over in nostalgia when I watched it, so maybe I'm not remembering well, but which parts did you feel like trans identity was shoved in your face? Aside from Bugs being obviously non-binary, and like, one or two one-liners in the montage of the game dev bullshitting about what the matrix is about, I don't really know what would stand out to a cis person. Everything else was exactly as subtle as any other entry, like Trinity getting pissed off at her program husband for calling her Tiff standing in as a metaphor for deadnaming and shit, and I, a trans nonbinary person, didn't even see it that way until I just tried to google specific trans moments in the movie.
I'm just weary of people who complain about having things that are just basic human stories shoved in their face, it seems totally logical to you because you're just not into that, but by some weird coincidence it always just happens to be basic human stories about minority groups and marginalized people that the majority sees as gross or offensive (kinda like juggalos......). I have a hard time believing that doesn't translate into you having a worldview that sees that group as subhuman/undesirable. If you don't want to see it in a movie, you probably don't want to see it in real life, right? That's.... exactly what having a problem with trans people means. "Live and let live" doesn't work under the condition of "just keep it the fuck away from me". You can not wish violence on us and still find us disgusting, but you can't pretend that that's not "having a problem" with us..
