Jelly Roll made a surprise appearance on Young Wicked’s official Instagram page to announce that Young Wicked will be touring as James Garcia for the next three months of the “Work In Progress” tour!
The Young Wicked persona looks to be fully retired now too, as Jelly Roll says in the footage, “Formerly Young Wicked”. He probably thinks the name is a part of the reason he isn’t reaching higher levels. I party agree. He’s got a lot of mainstream appeal and I used to fucking hate him. I remember when they got signed from that competition thing back in like 2004. I thought amb was the whackest shit. Me and my boys were all far more impressed by The Nillaz than amb. I was fully “Fuck AMB” for a long time. I started paying attention to young wicked when he signed with MNE because that whole beef is gay as fuck and amuses me to no end and when I went back and listened to old amb and YW solo stuff, I realised that it was mostly Bonez that was holding him back. He always had a lot of potential and I feel like he realised it a LOT more since signing with MNE.
To the point where, now, I would count him as one of my favourite current rappers. And that’s saying a lot because I wrote him off for over 10 years and avoided pretty much anything he was featured on.
I think a name change will help distance himself from his psychopathic career, that wasn’t all that impressive. He’s a complety different artist than the one he was back then so whilst his current fans will follow him in a name change he will probably open himself up to more casual listeners.
Listen to anything he ever dropped on psychopathic and compare it to his latest MNE release. Polar opposites.

I never really thought about it like that, him changing his name for more appeal that’s a gd point actually. And I pretty much felt the same way about amb. I remember back then being in 1 of my local record stores running into a random ninja buying the new amb, I was like “that’s prolly gonna be gay” but he looked at me crazy. Blood in blood out was not a gd album. God’s hand was better but still not up to snuff. HOWEVER I enjoyed their dj clay tracks ALOT, that’s when I started warming up to them. Then eventually we got SLAUGHTER from young wicked. It blew me away. I was like where was THIS all these years? Slaughter is 1 of my all time favorite albums. I was hoping James was going to eventually be the 1 driving the new sound of Psy, producing for icp n shit but we all know how that turned out. He’s definitely finally came out his she’ll that’s for sure, and I hope he gets as big as he can he really is talented.

Young Wicked was about to make ICP great again. Now they are letting pretty much anyone produce their music. Yum Yum has some trans punk producer along with the airhead. Not to be mean, but the quality will surely suffer. Young Wicked was the best thing for ICP and they lost him.

Playas Lounge Crew was definitely the stand out to the contest and at the time both of those cats rapped better than AMB. For me it was the Young Wicked mixtape where I really started to see growth in YW. Bones is still mediocre tho.

Best thing to happen to Psy was losing Young Wicked… Lost and Found are the 2 weakest albums ICP have ever put out, 100% due to the cheap, copy-cat, preset production by YW… Even the audiobook production is a mess… Now all that mess can stay happily over at MNE…
