In an update to this story police have made an arrest in the case. Police have charged Matthew Walter Mebane with the first degree murder of Francis Soto.The alleged motive for this crime was robbery of marijuana.

According to police Matthew Mebane admitted going to the home of Francis Soto to rob him of marijuana on the night the murder occurred. During the robbery attempt Matthew allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Soto during a struggle.

HUDSON, Fla. – An arrest has been made in the murder of a man known for dealing drugs out of his home in Hudson, Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies said Wednesday.

Deputies arrested Matthew Walter Mebane, 21, on a first degree murder charge. According to the arrest affidavit, Mebane admitted going to the home of Francis Soto, 26, to rob him of marijuana Sunday night. During the robbery, deputies said he pulled out a gun, and during a struggle, Mebane shot Soto four times with a .380 caliber revolver and fled the home.

Witnesses heard the gunshots and ran, then later found Soto on the floor, shot in the chest. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Sheriff Chris Nocco said Monday that the victim was an associate of the Juggalos gang and has prior arrests in Pasco County.

Mebane is being held in the Land O’ Lakes Jail without bond
