What up Juggalos? I have had one busy week, but I wanted to take a few moments to let you all know how The Geto Boys tour was.

Now this review is probably going to seem a little briefer than my previous ones, but to be quite honest, this wasn’t a “huge show” in the aspect you may be thinking of, there quite honestly is not much to talk about other than their performance. They had a small crew, no merchandise that I saw, not even a tour shirt. They did come out at the end however for pictures with the fans, but other than that, they kept it pretty low key.

The crowd wasn’t sell-out numbers, but there were a couple hundred people there. Interestingly enough, only maybe 25% of the people there were Juggalos. Most of the crowd was made up of old-school hip hoppers. They weren’t overly rowdy, there were no fights or anything that I saw, it was a pretty peaceful atmosphere.

The first groupIMG_0346 up was a Buffalo local, Kamp Crystal Lake (www.kampcrystallake.com). They debuted a new song and got the crowd pumped up for the Tour. After a short wait, a couple cats who were touring with The Geto Boys came out for a few minutes to get the night moving. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch the name of their group, but the crowd seemed to be getting into them.

Finally after another short wait, the legendary Geto Boys appeared on stage. At first it was just Scarface for a minute, but he was soon joined by Willie D. After the first song, Bushwick Bill came out. He was on stage for the majority of the show, although he would drop to the back every now and then. Towards the end of the set, he disappeared and reappeared behind the crowd standing up on a shoulder-height wall.

Now I’m not gonna front here, I don’t their songs by name. It’s nothing against them, I like their music, I just don’t have th100_0481em on my iPod where I’m bumping it constantly, you know? I did recognize a good number of songs, they performed a decent amount of tracks for about an hour set, give or take. The crowd was definitely getting live though, many of the people in the front were throwing dollar bills up on the stage — to which Willie D. replied “keep your singles, give us your 50s and 100s.”

All in all it was a great show, just seemed very “simple.” They did let drop though that this is just the first tour, they’re getting back into the swing of things, and after seeing this show I can’t wait to see what they have in store next year.

I was able to catch up with Willie D. before the show. Unfortunately we didn’t have a quiet place for our interview, but you can still peep it here:

I listened to the Geto Boys pretty religiously from the late 80’s to the late 90’s and I don’t ever recall them doing a tour. Back then you could make money off CD’s and tapes. That was more of their model. I’m sure they played spot shows here and there, maybe a few small tours but Geto Boys were never really something based on live performance. It would be cool to see them adapt to the new merch and tour based economy though.
I’m surprised that the audience had that high of percentage of Juggalos. The Geto Boys had/have legions of fans in their own right, but good for the upstate NY ninjas for making the show.
Sad the review contained no information on the setlist. Maybe study up on some GB discs before the show, just advice if you are going to be reviewing shows. Just some human to human wisdom, I do advise you get some Geto Boys on that iPod and grip it on that other level.
    Good post.

You are correct, this was their first official tour ever. As far as the Juggalo percentage, there really should’ve been more, at least at the Buffalo stop. I head an organization called Buffalo Juggalos, over 700 members and we usually get at least a hundred or two of them at every show. I guess being on a Tuesday night people passed on it.
And I do agree about studying up, this was just their first tour to test the waters Willie said, they already want to do a bigger tour next year and an even bigger one than that the following year, so I’m definitely getting myself more familiar. As far as a set list, my assistant who was with me is a huge fan, and I’ve been waiting on him to get me a list to share with all of you, so hopefully I can get that soon.
Thank you for reading, I appreciate the feedback! Peace, MCL
