Recently both underground rappers swung through T Dot to perform solo shows. Kool Keith was on what he called "The Spitfire Tour". Apathy was promoting his latest album on his "Connecticut Casual" tour. Both shows showcased rappers at different stages of their careers. Keith is a living legend, Apathy spent part of his set telling us he finally opened up his first savings account. First through town was Kool Keith, and he had the crowd very anxious when he finally took the stage around 1 am.Little did we know what we were in for. Here are a few snaps of Keith arriving on the scene-

If you were a big Kool Keith fan heading into the show, you heard every track you could hope to hear live. Keith performed for 2 and half hours. More on that later. All the hits were dusted off, including Blue Flowers, Livin Astro, Earth People and many more. Here are more shots of Keith working the crowd, with his considerable skills-

Now Keith's "Official set" ended after about hour or so. Keith even left the stage and came back out for an encore at that point. He must have been having a good time because he decided to continue to perform for us, digging out brand new songs he had never performed before, and the straight up free styling over whatever beats his DJ could dig up. His one hour plus freestyle showcase was like a master class in emceeing, in fact his whole show was. At around 3am the club decided to try to send a local opener rapper on stage to herd Keith off to end the show , but Keith wasn't having that shit.He kept performing long after that. Here are some pics of that kid on stage trying to tell us to thank Keith and wrap up the show lol-

Shortly after 3:30 am,Kool Keith's DJ ran out of beats. That's right, Keith free styled over every beat they could findlaugh, til there were no more. He was then gracious enough to take photos with ninjas and sign autographs. A few snaps of Keith wrapping things up-

And just last Thursday night, APATHY of Army of the Pharaohs made it to the same venue in Toronto (Rockpile East), for one of the last stops on his nationwide tour. Unlike Keith, Ap was very prompt, taking the stage just before midnight.Surprisingly, he opened up the set with arguably his biggest hit- "Stop What Ya Doin" with that dope beat by DJ Premier getting the crowd live as hell-

Apathy is a talker, and shared many stories between tracks. The funniest one was probably him telling us about being signed to a major label for a short time, and how they advised him to start working out in the gym so he could take off his shirt in videos. He said they also told him to learn how to skateboard laugh. Apathy performed for just over an hour, and managed to dust off fan favorite verses from the Demigodz, AOTP, and solo tracks. He was complaining that he felt like a fried egg up on the stage because the lights were so hot, lol. Here are a few more shots of him doing his thing, he had a hype man with him for certain tracks who he said directed a lot of his recent videos-

Favorite moment of the night for me was when Apathy busted his verse from Army of the Pharaoh's new track "God Particle"

"I turn your albums off. I turn your brain to applesauce. My wingspan be like an albatross."

A ninja posted a dope chunk of Keith's hour long freestyle session from that night on youtube. Here is that clip-

Thought I'd bump this thread with a few shots of the latest Rockpile show I saw, SLAINE this last Monday night. SLAINE had his homie/hypeman LEFT HOOK on tour with him this time, which was a bonus. Crowd was tiny, SLAINE complained a lot about that. Every other time he's been in town it's been with Madchild/Swollen Members or La Coka Nostra, which drew much bigger crowds. I still enjoyed his set, but it was probably the quietest crowd for a hip hop show I've ever witnessed. I was the only one cheering after some songs lol. Some pics-

This is the only pic I can get up right now. I have a few others though. This was back in '09 I think.

Here, found the video I recorded. It was a really small bar/venue, I remember him playing upstairs. When he walked out to start his show he literally was right next to me walking up on stage.

That's a sweet montage you made dude. The crowd seemed live as fuck that night. I hope I'm lucky enough to see Keith spit fire live again at some point.cool
